How to Save Money at CAMP - Los Angeles

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had my dog for 8 years now. I always have a difficult time with brushing his teeth. Whenever he sees a grooming bag, he rushed away to the crate and he will not come out for a long time. I tried with his favorite treats to brush his teeth, but he only took the treat and he ran away again. I tried all kinds of dental products and they didn't seem to work. Finally, I realized that my dog needs a dental deep cleaning. Dental cleaning is very expensive for dogs. After I searched on Google, I found CAMP LA. It used to be called SPNLA and they changed the name. Anyway, I made an appointment at 9:30 AM, but the clinic was hard to find it. I got lost for one hour. When I arrived at the clinic, there were plenty of parking spaces. There were a lot of people waiting for their dog's Vaccination. You don't need to have an appointment for the Vaccination & their Vaccination prices are much lower than in other places. CAMP staffs were friendly and caring for all the dogs. One of the staff, held my dog gently so he wouldn't get scared at the clinic. Anyway, I met a Veterinarian. She was a professional and caring person. She explained the deep cleaning procedure. For the procedure, they will put the dog under anesthesia. My dog had the Vet. Exam, blood test & urine test at the clinic. They charged me $62 for the Vet. exam. And the blood test and urine test were $95. You can get discounts if you get qualified for the income. Then, the deep cleaning procedure will cost $291 and there is a waiting list for the deep cleaning procedure. They will let you know when will be the date for the procedure. I recommend the CAMP LA clinic to all pet parents because you can save a lot of money. Also, they have excellent services.

100% the best place I’ve been to for any vaccination or check up needs! I’m in awe at how great my experience was. I got a kitten just this morning and brought her over around 10:30 am and waited exactly 1 hour like they told me!! It was perfect, they took her in and gave her shots in less than 5 mins. The staff are super dedicated and hard working!! It’s super organized and they handle everything so professionally!!! And of course they were very kind and helpful (as long as your patient with them! They are helping lots and lots of patients all day) The entrance is up the ramp to the right of the building if ur looking at it, and there’s parking too! Street parking wasn’t too bad though. They have a waiting area with a good Amount of seats but if you go past noon, you’ll be waiting awhile since it is super affordable and open 7 days a week. They take Apple Pay, card and cash I paid $32 for the 2 shots without the booster and will be going back in 4 weeks for that booster! I’m totally going back with my 7 year old cat for his shots this year and if you go at 9 am when they open, you don’t wait at all. 1000/1000 recommend.

Reality Check

CAMP at South L.A. Chesterfield Animal Shelter is wonderful. Everybody from Natalie & the other staff to Dr. Lopez, the veterinarian we saw, is knowledgeable, professional, organized & kind. Their prices are very reasonable compared with other vet clinics & offer a discount if you're low income. I highly recommend this vet clinic.
