How to Save Money at Carlsen Animal Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Had an emergency with my cat, my regular vet was not available for 2 days. I frantically looked for a Vet that could take him right away. They were able to make an appointment immediately. Called when they opened and I got an appointment at 9:30 a.m.. Dropped off in the parking lot. Intake was easy, filled out basic info on a tablet while they brought him in to be seen. Then the vet, Dr. B came out and discussed his issues and what was wrong, She really put my mind at ease. She explained everything in detail and helped me to understand what was wrong and what had happened and that they could take care of it. I left him for the day, they took care of him, fixed his issues. I picked him up that evening before they closed and Mochi came home with a cone and stitches. The entire staff was lovely. The entire process was easy. They made me feel comfortable and that my cat would be well taken care of. He had an impacted Anal gland that ruptured ..... I have since returned for his follow-up visit, waited in the parking lot while they saw him, They took out his stitches gave him his vaccinations, And we discussed how he's doing, healing great and again everything went smoothly. Prices were fair. I thought It would actually be a lot more than it was. I would highly highly recommend this vet. They were wonderful in every way. They are now my new Vet 😺 5/25/22 Mochi had a recheck and the offices are open now for in office visits. We had an appointment quick in and out less than 30 minutes. 🐈 We love our new vet doctor B. 😺 8/13/24 Annual checkup and shots for all three babies Great experience with the new vet!

Amazingly kind receptionists and vet staff - call before hand for a time that's not busy, it will make your life and their service much better! They will really look after your pet, my dog is always so stoked to visit. After nutering he wasn't feeling or acting his normal self, they asked us to bring him back in for a day. After that pick up he was the healthiest happiest pup I've ever seen. They even called a week after to see how he was doing. Their love and care for your pet really shows in my experience.

We've been with Carlsen Animal Hospital for over 10 years, and they truly are the best. Their clear pricing, honest recommendations, and genuine care for both our dog Cauchy makes them stand out. They helped us get him back to healthy shape after his rescue, guided us through his double CCL surgeries and now being the best advisors through his old age. Even after moving to Sherman Oaks and trying other vets, we quickly realized they were irreplaceable and came back without hesitation. Carlsen Animal Hospital is simply outstanding, and we wouldn’t trust our pets with anyone else.

I am so happy I found Carlsen. The staff is absolutely fabulous. Danielle, Jose, Karla, and Emily have all been fabulous and both of my dogs run into the clinic and happily greet the staff with wagging tails despite the fact that every time we are there they are getting vaccinations or exams or having blood drawn. It’s so relieving to have a place to take my animals where the staff is excellent and caring, my dogs are happy to visit, and I trust the medical advice. I can’t recommend Carlsen strongly enough.

My family and I could not be more grateful for the high-quality of care provided by Dr. Bhuta and her incredible staff. Thanks to everyone there for their infinite knowledge & compassion for animals. The doctor only wanted to do what was best for the doggy. Dr. Bhuta educated our family on a complicated diagnosis as well as its necessary procedures in a way that we could each process well enough to be able to share with our extended family and friends effectively. She is also extremely genuine. The support members of her team each took their time with us as patience, acting professional, polite, and caring. Huge thanks to Dr. B, Nicole, and the team at Carlsen Animal. Dr. Bhuta is an angel. I hope you will do yourself and your fur baby a favor and go see the team at Carlsen Animal Hospital if you are in need of an animal expert for any reason.
