How to Save Money at Affordable Animal Hospital Silver Lake

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vets and staff here at the Silver Lake location are honestly really great and very kind. I've been here for two pets; a kitten I adopted who was very ill and had to be euthanized, and later with my new puppy. The compassion and effort the staff showed with my kitten who had to be euthanized was just incredibly kind. And they have been really nice and attentive when I brought my new puppy here. They're also helpful if you call for records, they can email them to you and do so quickly.

IF AFFORDABLE IS WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR LOOK ELSEWHERE. I'd give zero stars if I could. It is a con at best. You are not allowed to enter the premises with your animal, they store them in the back while you wait outside, it took 2 hours for them to get to my sick animal. I have never been so guilted by a vet to spend an absolute premium. The medicine my animal required ( common antibiotic to treat most things) wasn't even available through them for a week. THEY OFFER EVERYONE THE SAME OPTIONS OF EXPENSIVE TREATMENTS, i overheard discussions near me and they're always over 1k. I was given a 2500 bill for treatments I was charged 1k for the year before- EXACT SAME TREATMENTS WITHOUT THEM DEFERRING TO PRIOR RESULTS AND TRYING NEW OPTIONS. PLEASE consider a different vet. Two visits was enough for me. Gutted upon leaving. Also.. test results at a new vet were different and options and discussions were provided while I got to comfort my animal beside me. Spent 1/4 of my prior bill. So disappointed and I NEVER write reviews. Proceed with caution and expect to feel taken advantage of.

A vet with a good heart. I don’t think some of the people here gave fair reviews. He saved my cat’s life with a reasonable price and when my cat was at the hospital, he called to update me with his condition. So far the best animal hospital I have even been to. ❤️

Don’t be fooled by the affordable title . My dog had fleas and the bill came to nearly 400 dollars ! Are you serious we are in a recession and this is affordable?. This is a vet office with a mentality to upsell you and squeeze what they can out of u . I had mentioned that my dog just took flea medication and they attached another dose which could of made him sick . I hate offices like this and have come across vet businesses that operate in such a way to utilize your beloved animal as a vehicle to squeeze whatever they can out of u . It’s taking advantage of peoples trust and tilting it as affordable is a ploy to lure you in . The disheveled office could use some upgrade with the money they charge . With that said the dr and his assistant were nice enough so I blame the greedy owner . Beware !

Do not recommend. You're not even allowed inside with your pet. After waiting to hear from them for 2 hours, they suggested $1,500 in treatments following (we're told) a "skin test" that determined she was at a 7% dehydration level... We were polite and understanding the entire time. We asked what a normal dehydration level was and she didn't know. She said she checked with the doctor and he said it was 7%. We asked what 7% was in comparison to and if it was a concerning level and the rep got up in a huff and suggested we speak directly to the doctor. The person was inconsiderate, dismissive, unprofessional and rude. I'll never go back to this place and would never recommend them caring for anyone's pet. The hospital was having a rough day. They were admittedly understaffed, a patient's dog had just been put down, and we understand these environments are stressful but the whole purpose is to provide safe comforting care to pets and their owners. We're not dismissing the challenges of working tin this environment but nothing abnormal for a vet clinic happened, yet they were incredibly unprepared and unprofessional. We paid an $80 service fee, left with our cat, and will be looking for a second opinion elsewhere. This felt like a group of people who were inexperienced and uninformed at best, a scam at worst.
