How to Save Money at Affordable Animal Hospital Silver Lake

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place was incredible. I have a 16-year-old Maltese who had a huge mass on her belly. I took her in and they were able to do surgery the same day and gave me an incredible price. She’s fully recovered and extremely happy! they made this so easy and I’m just so grateful that it didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Please check this place out if you’re looking for affordable vet care!

Thank you so much to Dr. Barrera and the surgeon who most likely saved my dog’s life. I was quoted a small fortune from other vets. Affordable animal hospital was able to save me thousands of dollars and most importantly they did an amazing job with my dog. He had a hernia that required major surgery and he’s healing beautifully now! I’m so grateful!

There’s no words to explain how grateful I am for this clinic and the magical hands of the doctor and the great staff, they are the best pet clinic around Los Angeles, they took my puppy as an emergency, I was so stress and sad because I couldn’t find what was wrong with her, after the doctor did a check up he proceeded to with a procedure and now my puppy is healthy, they save my puppy. The team is so supportive and the communication is amazing I can’t be more thankful for all the support, prices are fair, the doctor called me to follow up the next days, they were on top of her recovery We love you dr Barrera your work ethic and dedication is amazing !! My pet and my family’s pet have come here several times and the visits were always seamless. Our pets came out relatively content every single time. Even during Covid, they created a system of dropping off your pet without forfeiting the interactions you got between you and the vet tech. The staff and doctors have always been friendly and take the time to explain in detail to ensure you understand all the treatments your pet needs and the risks that go along with it. I use to take my pet to another affordable vet clinic in the area. It was extremely busy all the time and served at a first come first serve basis. The vet techs and doctor were very friendly and did their best to provide treatment especially at a very affordable cost. However, I had to arrive to that clinic first thing at 7am just to get my pet’s name on the waitlist. It would be you plus 50 other people waiting outside, hoping to hear yours and your pet names called after waiting for a few hours. Although this hospital is not at the same level of affordability, being able to make appointments without waiting all morning in hopes of your pet getting seen does make it worth it to me. It provides a much better experience and still much more affordable compared to other vet clinics that I have been to. You can also tell the staff here loves animals and that’s the number one thing we hope for from a vet clinic.

Visited this facility on November 4th for an urgent care visit. The initial visit was at a low cost but services needed to “see if” my dog was okay were completely overpriced and unnecessary. I ended up going home and treating my dog myself. That being said I do understand animal care can be expensive, but in my case I feel my dog was not properly assessed. Overall the visit was good, but it didn’t workout too well for me. The staff was very friendly and the visit was relatively quick. It’s a corner building and there is plenty of street parking.
