How to Save Money at Gold Coast Mobile Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I wanted to share my experience with Tommy and Dr Au. Obviously seeking someone for this type of care is already difficult and anxiety inducing. Tommy and Dr Au were extremely kind, patient and graceful during this entire experience. Dr Au was able to come out when we needed her to, explained everything in a compassionate manner, and allowed us all the time we needed to say goodbye to our Sabrina. Aftercare was also handled by Tommy and Dr Au and the communication during this entire process was second to none. If this is something you are or will need to seek in the future, Dr Au and team will be there, to provide thorough, compassionate and human care during that difficult time. Her kindness will not be forgotten. Thank you Dr Au.

Dr. Au was amazing. She was communicative, gentle, kind, compassionate, patient and professional. From our first phone call speaking with Tommy in her office, to the Venmo request once she had been to our home, everything was smooth and courteous. Our senior German Shepherd passed peacefully in the comfort of her own bed, surrounded by her family thanks to Dr. Au. We never want to go through this experience but we will never go through it again without the help of Dr. Au and Gold Coast Mobile Veterinary Care.

I hate that I even have to leave this review but for anyone contemplating using Dr. Au, she’s the one you want. Words can’t describe how amazing she was in taking part of one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make with euthanizing our beloved dog. We struggled with knowing when the time was “right” which, you never fully feel there is a right time. However, she made us feel comfortable about it throughout the entire process. The booking process was very smooth. She was on time, so caring, and we weren’t rushed at all. We didn’t want to do it at the vet because our dog always got nervous there and we didn’t want to do it at home because we didn’t want the constant memory if it happening in our home and have young children and she was willing to meet us at a park near where we used to live. I had an appointment scheduled and due to his condition becoming more severe, she was able to accommodate us earlier than our original appointment. Benji, upon meeting her immediately gave her a few licks which he hadn’t done to anyone for a while. We saw a boost of happiness being at the park, we were able to give him ice cream beforehand and he peacefully passed. Although it was hard, I have found comfort in the fact he is no longer suffering and Dr. Au was the one who assisted so gently with the process. I really can’t thank her enough.

Considering the nature of my appointment for my pet, Dr. Au and Tommy made the experience as painless and free of stress—for me and my dog—that I could have ever hoped for. They were professional yet accommodating and extremely patient and sensitive. Seriously, this team was a blessing to help me and my dog get through this. I will be forever grateful to them.

When it came time to say goodbye to our precious Alice, it all happened so quickly. One day she was fine, and the next, she was not. She got progressively worse over the next two weeks, hadn’t eaten since Thursday, and when her normal vet saw her on Saturday, she said Monday would probably be the day to make some hard choices… But Alice woke up Sunday morning, having made the decision for us. You could just see in her eyes that it was time to go. We were vehemently opposed to making her final moments take place in a hospital, but Sunday morning is the absolute worst time to find an in-home vet. No one works on Sunday. …Except Tommy at Gold Coast. He got back to us right away and was so helpful. Of all the clinics we called, only Gold Coast was willing and able to get a doctor over to us THAT day. And late in the evening, too. Don’t make the mistake of calling other vets or mobile care to help your pet find a dignified and peaceful end of life — start with Gold Coast. It doesn’t make the decision any easier, but you can trust that Dr. Au and Tommy will take care of you with such compassion and care, you’ll walk away assured you did the right thing by your loved one. It is ONLY because of Gold Coast that Alice was able to pass peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones. And even though Dr. Au spent less than an hour with her, I would most definitely include her in that group. She was so caring from the moment she arrived, and just wanted to get Alice as comfortable as possible while she prepped. She did a great job of that. Then, when it was time, Dr. Au made sure the end was swift and tranquil. She is such a professional that she knew exactly how and when to step back and let the final goodbyes and petting take place. And then, without words, she stepped back in for the final preparations. Then took our baby with her to receive her aftercare. In short, Dr. Au and Tommy provided my entire family with the opportunity to say goodbye at home. There’s truly no better gift as a pet owner.
