How to Save Money at Gold Coast Mobile Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As all of us know, losing a pet is one of the most heartbreaking experiences. Sadie was my girl. Thank goodness for Dr. Au and her team. From the moment I met Dr. Au she provided me, my husband, and Sadie with kindness, compassion, empathy, and support. To be able to be with my girl in our home was such a gift. Sadie was surrounded by love, her family, and comfort. It was so peaceful. Thank you Dr. Au. Mae and Richard

Dr. Au was a blessing for us. I will forever be grateful for the care she took with our big guy, Franklin. It was such a difficult decision and she handled everything with grace and care. She has a gift and I am so thankful she helped us in our time of need.

Dr. Au is remarkably skilled, gifted, and caring in her provision of at-home euthanasia for pets. My 16 year old soulmate cat needed to cross over with only a day’s notice. It was a sacred transition as it is the closest bond I’ve ever had and a terribly painful decision I had to make to let him go. I could not be more pleased with how it went. Dr. Au has a gentle, loving energy. My cat and I were in exceptionally skilled care.

Our dog Baxter had been diagnosed with oral cancer (fibrosarcoma) 6 months prior and we felt it was time to send him over the rainbow bridge as he was beginning to suffer. It’s the hardest part of being a dog owner and we were dreading saying goodbye to him. We decided for euthanasia at home so Baxter could be in his own bed and surroundings. Dr Au immediately put us at ease and spent a few minutes stroking Baxter and talking to him. She also explained how he could easily have deteriorated further, had we not come to this decision. This was very good to hear and it did somewhat put our minds at rest along with Dr Au’s very calming presence which was much appreciated. She explained in detail how the process would go and was extremely gentle with Baxter throughout. He fell asleep quickly in his own bed and passed shortly afterwards. Dr Au was very respectful of Baxter even following his passing and gently handled his body. She also felt his lymph nodes and said it felt as if the cancer had most likely spread. Another weight off our minds, knowing we had made the right decision for Baxter. What I really liked about Dr Au was her professional and yet caring approach under very emotional circumstances. She moved the procedure along when needed but also gave us the time to properly say goodbye to our boy. We would HIGHLY recommend Dr Au and Gold Cost.

Worthy of a hundred stars. The kindness I was shown was immeasurable. I used her services to put my senior dog Elvis to rest, one of the hardest decision I ever had to make. It was an extra heartbreaking moment, as Elvis had been my husband's dog for 20 years, and my husband had passed away just months before. I knew I was going to be a wreck. She was so kind and gentle, empathic, and patient. I felt she understood that I was in the depths of grief. I was surrounded by some of my BFFs who had helped me throughout the painful year, and she fit in as if she was one of us, a friend we already knew. The process was as smooth and gentle as such a painful moment can be, thanks to her knowledge and care. She explained the process and gave me time to ask questions. She didn't rush out after, she gave us plenty of time. We made sure Elvis's kitty sisters got to say goodbye, and that we got to have some final moments with him. She wrapped him carefully in blankets in a basket and handled him with love and respect. His ashes were returned with care as well. I know it takes a special kind of person to do this kind of work and Dr. Au is that special person. I am so grateful for everything. ❤
