How to Save Money at Modern Animal Playa Vista
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We have had the worst time find a great vet, from Shane's who is just the worst to Paws and Palms and any VCA you can go to. We have been to them all. Mack our pit/bulldog had a terrible ear infection and was itchy and I thought over weight. So, we tried Modern Animal and so far they are great. I hope it stays that way. I am so tired of looking. I did not know it was a chain, but it is. This one is in Playa Vista and really nice. The staff was great. They were ready for us within minutes of us getting there. Mack, however, enjoyed none of it. He had to have his Du nails clipped and he just refused. They got one and he will go back and I will get him so stoned first, he won't be a bother. The ear infection was found and he has meds for that which are working. His itchy skin is being dealt with, unlike Paws and Palms which just took a guess. He now has the right cream. And sure enough my boy is overweight, so I have him on a strict diet and he would like to give me 0 stars for his feeding. He is a pocket pity, bull dog mix with the short snout and you just can't let them get fat. Modern Medicine seems to know what they are doing and we go back in a couple of weeks, with a high dog in tow. We really loved the staff and the place is spotless. Mack refused to have his photo taken.

I had a deeply unpleasant experience this morning. I parked briefly in what appeared to be a public parking. Within moments, a staff member from the front desk came outside with a clipboard approached my car , saw me, and went back inside. I was in my car for no longer than a few minutes before moving it--but before I could even leave, she came back out, raised her voice, and very aggressively said, "You cannot park here. I will make sure you get towed next time. Security is aware!" I explained that I was already moving my car, but she proceeded to take out her phone and began photographing me and my license plate while I was inside my vehicle. When I asked why she was taking pictures, she said it was to "report me to security" and "keep it in their system." She then held the hospital door open, and continued shouting--at one point even threatening that she would sue me if I "posted anything." The hostility and lack of professionalism were shocking. I was already leaving and posed no issue, yet this staff member escalated the situation unnecessarily, in full view of others. If this is how they treat people in the parking lot, I can only imagine the lack of empathy and respect shown to actual patients or their families. Over parking that was already addressed.. not even 5 mins... she makes the parking police look great! This kind of behavior is unacceptable in a healthcare setting. I will be escalating this matter to corporate and contacting the plaza management to verify whether my personal information and photos are being stored without my consent. If so, I will take further action as needed. I do not recommend this hospital to anyone seeking compassionate or professional care.

Initially hesitant with the idea of a big corporate style vet... but the team there is AMAZING. You never wait too long, they're always prompt/thorough and give you a ton of attention. The customer service team is amazing. We've been dealing with a serious health issue for our senior pup who is 16 and Dr Le has been terrific - empathetic, supportive, helpful and just a wonderful person to deal with. We even asked her to throw together a letter quickly for travel insurance (due to a trip we had to cancel) and she did it within a day!

Visits at Modern Animal are stress-free for my pup! She loves getting treats and it makes getting vaccinations, or ear-plucking almost painless because she’s so engaged in the lick mat. I love the thorough explanations of procedures and the care that they take to make sure both pet and human are comfortable. Dr. Shim is wonderful & so is Nealy!

When I lived in SoCal, I brought my anxious dog here for all our veterinary needs, and we were always met with welcoming, caring professionals and great overall care. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone, but especially if your dog struggles with veterinary or general anxiety. Sadly, we no longer live in an area with access to clinics, but even my experience of changing membership to fit our lives right now was so incredibly positive! It can be expensive, but I always found it was worth it for my and my dog’s peace of mind.
