How to Save Money at Larchmont Village Vet🐾🩺

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Larchmont Village Vet is truly wonderful. The entire team is incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely caring toward both pets and their owners. You can immediately tell how much they love animals by the way they handle them—so gentle, calm, and attentive. They always take the time to explain everything clearly, answer questions, and make sure you never feel rushed. It’s such a relief knowing your pet is in the hands of people who truly care, not just about treatment but about your animal’s comfort and well-being. I’m so grateful to have found a vet I completely trust. Highly recommend!

This will be my go to vet moving forward! Not only was I able to get a convenient appointment (they have flexible hours) but they were kind and patient. Dr Moffitt was diligent and explained absolutely everything to ensure that we were getting every answer to every question. Prices were reasonable and everything was explained to make sure I was comfortable. They also gave me a follow-up call to check in on my kitty to make sure she is still doing well. Extremely satisfied and definitely visit again.

Writing this review has been incredibly difficult, but I’m sharing our experience in hopes that it helps others make an informed decision when choosing a vet for their fur babies. My family and I have been going to Larchmont Village Vet for years. We were never fully satisfied—everything always felt just okay—but we continued giving them the benefit of the doubt because finding a new vet is daunting, especially when a life you love is in their hands. I will never return after what happened with our beloved dog. We brought him in for a simple ear cleaning. Nothing unusual was going on that day. He had recently begun experiencing seizures, but he was on medication and doing well. What should have been a routine visit quickly turned into a crisis. A tech came out to tell us he was suddenly having a seizure. We were shocked and immediately asked to go back and be with him to help calm him, but we were denied and kept in the lobby. We never got to see him during the episode. We were later told he was having cluster seizures—something he had never experienced before. Based on how frantic and unsure the staff seemed, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he may have been handled too roughly or without the gentleness he needed in his condition. Of course, I can’t say for certain what happened out of our sight, but that concern has weighed heavily on me. Their only advice was to rush him to the hospital. When they finally released him to us, we took him straight to ACCESS, where the team handled the emergency calmly, confidently, and with compassion. What added even more hurt was the complete lack of care afterward. Not a single call to check on him, despite our many years as clients. They also never returned our message when we reached out with a question about the ear medication they had given us. Also just to note they charged us for everything, the entire visit despite not getting the full service. I’m not saying they directly caused his seizure, but I deeply regret bringing him in that day. Our pup has since passed away, and the indifference we experienced from this clinic added unnecessary pain to an already devastating situation. Please be cautious when trusting this place with your animal’s care.

Love this Vet. I just went to Dr. Drayton and he is so kind and reassuring. They give you a breakdown before you do services so you can choose what you want to do in your visit and aren't gauged with costs. My anxious dog does pretty well here!

I chose a vet prior to coming to Larchmont, I immediately walked into this vet and knew I made the correct choice switching. They’re clean, amazingly nice staff and my dog was in great hands. They were so caring towards him that I knew we found our forever vet.
