I am happy with them!
They have paid claims with clear explanations about what was and wasn’t covered and why. For example they break down what my 10% share is, what went toward my deductible and what normal exam fees are not covered, For a procedure done yesterday, they paid the vet directly which was really nice. So far, Trupanion has lived up to my expectations and I am pleased!

Great customer service and support
Great customer service. My dog needed knee surgery which Trupanion paid 90% which was a huge help. The preapproval was quick and easy. It was also nice that Trupanion had direct pay at the clinic I went to so I could submit the claim right there and just pay the difference.

Refusing claims because no medical history of Stray dog
Found a stray German Shepherd Dog a year ago. Took him to the vet and took out Embrace insurance on him. Had some small things with him in the past year that needed medical attention. Embrace refuses the claims cause the invoices are not through their electronic system. Last thing I took him to the vet for stitches after he ripped his ear somewhere. Embrace refuses payout because they want his medical history from before I started the policy 1 year ago. But he was a stray! I'll stay away from Embrace.

Spot Pet Insurance Finds Every Excuse Not To Pay
My experience with Spot Pet Insurance was an absolute nightmare once real veterinary expenses started happening. Collecting premiums every month was never a problem for them, but the second claims were submitted, the company suddenly became experts at twisting unrelated medical issues into “pre-existing conditions” to avoid paying. What made this even worse was the complete lack of transparency. Claims were denied with vague, generic explanations instead of clear evidence or detailed reasoning. Multiple unrelated conditions were lumped together under broad assumptions, and requests for line-by-line claim reviews or specific policy justification were met with canned responses that answered nothing. The entire process felt designed to frustrate customers into giving up. Instead of helping during an already emotional and financially stressful time, Spot created even more stress through delays, deflection, and blanket denials. The marketing promises and the actual claims experience felt like two completely different realities. If you are shopping for pet insurance, do yourself a favor and research companies with a proven history of honoring claims fairly. In my experience, Spot was far more interested in protecting payouts than protecting pets.
