Trupanion raises monthly fee, right after first claim...based on age, even when you've been with them for years.

I'm neurodivergent and disabled and I didn't bought pet insurance before. I called you canyon up a few years ago to get pet insurance for my 5-year-old Kitty, who was given to me by a neighbor. I told you canyon that I can barely make my rent, and neurodivergent, haven't thought insurance before and don't know which deductible to get. I let them know I live in poverty and I can't even make my electricity bill and ask for guidance for which plan. They suggested the highest monthly payment for the lowest deductible. After a couple of years of not being able to tithe anymore and owing absorbitant money on my electricity and not having food for myself, I let some people in on that initial conversation with Trupanion. They told me I should immediately call and ask for the highest deductible and the lowest monthly payment. So I did. But that was after having called trupanion a couple times asking about lowering the monthly fee and they kept warning me against it, saying that was a bad idea. But with cats, they often develop something that's lifelong. And the agent was saying, well what would you do if he broke his arm?! With your low deductible, it would cover that. And luckily, by then, I had been informed enough by people who were telling me I was getting taking advantage of. If a kitty breaks his arm, usually that's a one-time thing. It's not something that will need the continuous coverage. I didn't need to be paying $140 a month for a $250 deductible that would cover a one-time thing. So I went to the highest deductible in lowest monthly fee. That brings me to my kitty suddenly getting a bladder problem where he couldn't pee. When he tried he couldn't. And every once in awhile he could let out a pea-sized pee. I took him to the emergency room and sent all of the bills to Trupanion. On my next bill cycle, trupanion raised my monthly payment $25! (Even after having in bad bad faith that the best thing for my living in poverty situation but needing to make sure I have money from my Kitty food insurance and everything to do with my kitty, they said to get the highest monthly fee and collected that monthly until I finally changed it to the highest deductible in lowest money fee, and then my kitty had a problem and I needed to use the insurance. Next billion cycle, and extra $25 and I received an overdraft fee from my bank because I only had the exact amount of my monthly fee saved in my bank account ...and I was lucky to have it. ) I asked them if it was because of my claim and they said no, it's because your cat is aging! They had told me they would never raise the price due to age. They did tell me the policy prices do depend on the age that cat or animal is when they begin the relationship with Trupanion but after that, the only fees that are raised are when inflation rises. I still have not been able to get an answer from trupanion about raising my fee that makes sense. I want to send the conversations I had with the agents who told me these things, I want to send these conversations to corporate so that they know what kind of fresh double hockey sticks is going on in their company. -Unless this is what they are requiring their agents to do, maybe this is their unspoken business model. I also want to share with corporate how I was mislead. I think it's disgraceful. And by the way, they don't pay for what they call exams. So the emergency room visit had a lot of things that weren't covered. And in fact, every visit has a lot of things that are not covered. So when they tell you that they will pay for 90% of everything to do with anything related to a medical problem going with your cat that has been established, even if it's life long, they are leaving out a whole lot of things. Including how they will raise your monthly fee right after you make a claim. And then give you other reasons about why they raised it. I don't think they're supposed to be raising the monthly fee based on your animals age. And besides not thinking that they should do that, I literally asked them if they will be doing anything like that or if there are any reasons that they ever raise the monthly fee, and they said, the only times that they ever do that are every several years if that, and that when they do it it is only due to inflation. I thought I was dealing with a good place. I had heard good things and I didn't think I would be misled. And I didn't think that they would do sneaky things like raising the monthly fee $25 right after putting in a claim, my first claim. Smh. I feel terrible because I told everyone how wonderful they were, but that was before I needed to use their service. It was based on what they told me over the phone. Now I have to go everywhere and make sure everyone knows Trupanion is not honest. And I have to apologize to everyone; I was on all kinds of sites where people were adopting young animals and I suggested Trupanion :(
