Claims take forever then always denied
I purchased Pets Best most comprehensive plan after adopting a new dog, and now, five months later, I just canceled it. Don't bother with this company. Keep looking.
In those five months, I filed two claims. Both claims two about 6 weeks to process and then they denied everything as "pre-existing conditions", including things like a vet appointment and antibiotics for an open wound that occurred two months after the policy started.
Luckily, those were fairly small bills, but I can’t imagine how angry I would be if it was something more serious and more expensive. Based on my experience with them, I imagine that would involve some financial struggle while waiting for reimbursement on two month old claims followed by fighting for even longer to get the eventual denials reviewed.

WARNING - please don't go with PHI!!
I am devastated at my poorly made decision to switch to PHI Direct. I did not fully understand their policy (my own fault), and that decision has for sure shortened the life of my dog. Once they have a condition that needs to have a claim, they will only cover that until the next time the policy renews. If you have a breed that is likely to have an ongoing issue (such as a heart condition), sorry about your luck, they'll only cover it for the remainder of that policy year (if they cover it at all), then they consider it a "pre-existing condition". Crappy customer service, long wait times, no invoice. Just awful! Please please please understand this policy clearly before you consider signing up. The cheaper premiums are that cheap for a reason, and not worth losing your pet early because you suddenly can't afford to keep treating their condition. What is the point of having insurance if they stop covering you once you have a problem? Please take this warning and avoid this company if you want long term coverage.

Healthy Paws is excellent insurance
Healthy paws is excellent Insurance. My five month old puppy had an accident in our pool and two weeks later had another problem with an obstructed intestine needing surgery. Healthy paws was there for both incidents without question and handled the claim quickly and completely. As long as I have a pet, I will always have Healthy Paws insurance. Thank you Healthy Paws!

Read the fine lines, especially with breed exclusions!!
Our accident only ins plan covered basically everything BUT a 'cruciate ligament tear' which is basically the same as a torn ACL in humans. So b/c Beagles are more prone based on their stature, weight issues, etc etc blah blah blah... we had to pay out $4800/knee?!?!?!? I signed up for ins immediately after taking ownership of our pup & NEVER missed a darn monthly pymt EVERRR!! Typical insurance game... you need or responsible with taking out a policy for the "what-ifs" & then when those do happen in life there's ALWAYS some reason or excuse as to why you're NOT covered🙄 Ridiculous!

Highly recommend Healthy Paws!
I have been using Healthy Paws pet insurance for over 2 years(for my 2.5 year old cat), and I highly recommend it as a pet parent. Every claim I've submitted (around five in total) has been processed and approved , usually within a few days. The total claims amount to over $16,000, covering various events including surgery, ER visits, and other unexpected incidents.
What initially drew me to Healthy Paws was the thorough research conducted by my workplace's pet parent community.
They evaluated almost every pet insurance company out there, and Healthy Paws came out at the top in all aspects. Unfortunately, many providers have a high rate of declined claims. Healthy Paws stood out with the lowest number of declined claims among all the companies reviewed.

Total rip-off
I would give Trupanion a negative-five stars if that was available. A total scam. I have paid in $12,000 and when I finally brought my dog in for the first ever time for a leg injury, they would only pay $321.97 of a $1,283.30 emergency vet bill, thereby leaving me to pay $961.33.
Their reasoning? First a $500 deduction on EACH visit for a new "ailment", not the annual onetime $500 deductible that is common for health and prescription coverage, which I could have accepted. They would also not cover the emergency exam, nor the resultant prescription (because it was not a "category" they choose pay for).
After so many years of paying them, I immediately canceled...

Wonderful customer service and best insurance!!
I had my Sunny for 2 wonderful years. He was a rescue dog and we had no idea what’s his life was like before we found him. We took him in and decided to get him insured with This wonderful pet insurance. I was referred by my friend. That’s how good they are. They are referred by others. I’ve done the same. They were very supportive with my claims since day one till his passing. We’re so heartbroken and they made the claims easier for us till his last minute. They even cancelled his insurance which I thought it was wonderful because I don’t think I could have been able to do it. Thank you guys!! I’m very happy with Pets Best, they live up to their name!!!

Simple claims take a month to get a reply
Avoid at all costs. They continuously email you over and over again telling you that there is a delay in processing your claim, even for very simple claims like check ups. Everything goes towards your deductible so they cover virtually nothing except for high price surgeries - run far from this company.

Very pleased
The company I work for decided to offer pet insurance through ASPCA this year and coincidentally our family adopted a new puppy. We have filed several claims and have been reimbursed for items that were covered. The claim process has been seamless and our refunds are set up for direct deposit. My only regret was not signing up before we adopted so a few of the initial vet visits would have been covered as well.

Grateful for the surgery insurance helps with.
Our dog suddenly lost control of his hind legs, so we rushed him to the emergency vet. We found the doctors treating Brambleberry to be professional, competent, and compassionate and are closely following their recommendations. The surgery came before the disk material, and the bleeding damaged the spinal cord. Doctors are saying he is healing rapidly, faster than the usual curve.
We feel so fortunate to have Healthy Paws Insurance, which made it so much easier to afford this life-saving decision to have Brambleberry have the surgery. Filing claims was straightforward, and the payment was quick. He is well on the way to a full recovery.
