A Company that Unconditionally Loves Animals
On boxing day Spike had begun vomiting, I approached it with the typical wait and see attitude (if he vomits he usually recovers by the next day), and sure enough, the following day was fine. The day after that, Spike had thrown up again, this was cause for concern so I booked an appointment with my vet for the following day. They took some X-Rays, gave him some meds, and sent me home with a $580 bill. The next day when he was STILL vomiting they sent me to the emergency room. Long story short, Spike had a bout of pancreatitis and spent a week in the vet hospital. He's home now, but we're not fully out of the woods quite yet, we're doing bloodwork to see if he potentially has chronic kidney disease.
The reason I've said all of this here is that I want to give a glowing endorsement to both Alta Vista Animal Hospital for the quality of care they gave Spike, and Trupanion my insurance company that covered 90% of the bill. I pay $63/m for his coverage.
Without insurance, this vet visit would have been over $11'000 and I would have needed to put serious stock into either taking out a line of credit to pay the bill or possibly putting down my 2 and a half-year-old dog. Spike has a vet-approved diet, I give him treats sparingly, exercise him regularly, and he's extremely well socialized. The vet gives him a top bill of health on his annual check-up. My point is, this came out of nowhere, there was no direct cause or area of negligence that could have prevented this. It happened to me and Spike, and it can happen to you and your pet.
The best part? His future medication and visits related to this are also all covered, and there was no change in my monthly charge. This is why you get insurance!
Please, if you have ever considered getting pet insurance, go with Trupanion. I don't know what I would have done without them, and even having to make a decision would have been mortifying. I don't care about referral links, and I won't be providing one. This is the first time I have ever been so behind a service that I've made a point to "review" them. They saved my best friends life.
We have had our fair share of flare ups with our 10 month old dog. Anywhere from upset stomach (which included blood tests, mediation, etc) to his hospitalization (2.5 days) was covered 80%. It allowed us to think that was best for our dog vs getting overwhelmed with financials and worrying about making the payment. This company cares so much that they sent us a separate email just asking how our dog is doing since we were sending through so many bills. The app is super easy to use. You take a picture of your receipt and the deposit straight into your account. I’d recommend this company a million times over.
Our dog Bernie had to have surgery for a tumor on his eyelid. We submitted the claim to Healthy Paws, and our check was sent to us in just over a week. Submitting a claim to Healthy Paws couldn't be easier, and they are fast and efficient for their customers!
I ended up with a lemon of a dog. He’s the cutest lemon I’ve ever met, but he has developed a plethora of problems. Some are fixable and some are life long requiring maintenance that is quite pricey at times. I would never have been able to keep up, let alone have been able to have afforded the diagnostics that he needed. Here he is though living his best life happy as can be...just a little crooked.
Healthy Paws uses every excuse to NOT pay a valid claim
I have had this pet insurance plan since 2017 and have never submitted a claim. My dog needed eye surgery for a non-pre-existing eye growth that was first found in early 2019, well after I purchased the policy. Health Paws has done everything to not pay this claim including asking for medical records numerous time even after my vet has already submitted everything they had. Healthy Paws emailed me numerous times saying that they received medical records, but asking that a claim be submitted. Their claims department is ludicrous and the examiners do not know what they are doing. They keep increasing rates, but use numerous tactics to avoid paying claims. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PET INSURANCE PLAN!
Easy Claims + Excellent Coverage = More Time for Dot
When my pet insurance was going to double their prices, I hurriedly looked for new coverage for Dot, who was ~10 at the time (she's adopted). I was worried about getting affordable coverage given her age. I had read good reviews about Healthy Paws and decided to take the plunge. As Dot entered her senior years, she remained healthy and happy, enjoying long walks and her agility classes. 2020 was a nightmare. After taking Dot to the vet for what looked like arthritis, it turned out that she had kidney disease and she was hospitalized for a week. She was hospitalized four times in 2020 for various GI issues. The claims process and great coverage from Healthy Paws helped me focus on giving Dot the best care instead of worrying about the cost of taking care of her. Fingers crossed that 2021 will be better! Thank you Healthy Paws!!
In retrospect we couldn’t be happier with our decision to insure Neo almost 4 years ago. He was attacked by 3 French bulldogs on a daily afternoon walk suffering a broken leg and puncture wounds. Pets Best took a whole level of stress off of the situation with the quick and efficient handling of our claims. We have and will recommend your company to anyone who will listen. Thanks!!
Ive been a customer for several years. 2 years ago my dog was diagnosed with Epilepsy that requires several monthly medications to keep her stable. I was so grateful to have pet insurance to rely on. I have $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement and its been great. Claims are easy to file and reimbursements are FAST! A few months ago my dog was diagnosed with cancer and she needed surgery. Again Healthy Paws with there for quick reimbursement of a very large bill. If I did not have the insurance, a $3,000+ surgery would not even have been an option. I can not recommend Healthy Paws more! They truly are helping me to keep my beloved dog Lily healthy!
I Purchased a policy and into the second year I submitted a covered claim everything was done in a timely manner but the company started processing it months later and have now denied me saying that I didn’t submit it on time when it was them they didn’t process it on time
