Buffy, our shih tzu, was about three when we adopted her from her foster home. Within two months she required surgery to remove bladder stones and a corroded quarter swallowed sometime in her youth. We immediately decided we needed pet insurance! and are so thankful we chose to get it from ASPCA Pet Insurance. She has since needed life-saving surgery for a "telescoping intestine" and later treatment at Pet Emergency for a severe ear infection. We received fair and speedy reimbursement on each occasion after submitting our claim form. It's a relief to know that help is there if and when we need it for our beloved pet.

I would just like people to know that when a policy renews, if the animal (in this case my cat) has had a problem in the prior policy year, it will be considered a pre-existing condition for the next policy year. My cat started to get sick in November 2010. An ER visit and several vet visits to try and find out what was wrong were reimbursed to the extent of the policy. However, wasn't until mid Dec they finally found the issue - a brain tumor. Unfortunately, my policy renewed on Dec 1, so the biggest expenses - the cardiopulmonary ultrasound, the CT scan, anesthesia, overnight hospital stay, etc. were not covered since it related to her prior condition in November. So watch when your animal gets sick and when your policy renews. Timing is everything and it certainly was in my case.

I have paid my policy on time every month for nearly 2 years. I have never had to use their insurance, until recently my Chow Mix had an ear infection. Keep in mind, I have NEVER placed a claim on my pet. I sent in my claim for his ear infection. It took 2 weeks to review my claim with a result ending in NO COVERAGE?! I am so confused, why wouldn't an ear infection be covered? I understand they don't cover the exam, but what about the treatment? So basically I have had a policy that I have never used and when I attempted to use it, they won't cover something as simple as an ear infection.

My dog has a recurring ear infection for which we've repeatedly seen a vet. I knew that medications weren't covered by my particular policy, but I did not realize that that includes not only prescriptions but all shots and drugs given at the vet's office. Basically, the only things reimbursed are the actual visits and procedures. Other than that, service is excellent: I get emails to acknowledge receipt of my claims, and reimbursements are given quickly and without a fuss.

I am NOT a fan of insurance, but ourvet recommended Trupanion and they were offering a 30-day free trial, so we signed up. Just at the end of the trial period, Katie developed cherry eye, and we continued with the insurance to see how it would work. It has been four months now, and Trupanion has been a "true financial companion" for us. Within a few days of submitting a claim, we receive an email letting us know they received it, then an email that it's been approved, and then a check in the mail a week later. We (unfortunately) have had several claims in the last 3 months, and Trupanion has been efficient and responsive. Having a sick puppy is stressful enough. Knowing that 90% of the health bills are being covered helps alleviate some of that stress. THANK YOU!

We had previously been using Pets Best for our cat 3-year-old Evie. I chose it based on price and the fairly good reviews it received on here. They seemed better than what I had heard about with the big name ones, like VPI, but Pets Best's deductible structure sucked. It was a per-incident deductible (like car insurance), so the reimbursement was rarely worth it (unless you jacked up your premium to lower your deductible). Ex: We had a biopsy done that cost $600. After the deductible and 20% copay, I got back roughly $300, which was a little less than what I paid annually in premiums. If it were an annual deductible, I wouldn't mind eating that because I'd be set for the rest of the year. But I felt like I was pouring money into a hole and was intent on finding a pet insurance plan with an 80/20 reimbursement, annual deductible and decent customer service. I thought there couldn't possibly be a provider that met these requirements (they're all in this to make money and this is a bit of a boutique industry, right? why would they structure it actually pay out generously on claims??) until I read the reviews on here and looked more into Embrace. It's all true - they're awesome. The annual deductible makes a big, big difference. I just met mine after a blood test and exam, so it's a huge relief to know that if anything else comes up that requires a trip to the vet (or the ER), I've paid my fair share into the system and will be compensated appropriately. Ever since I'd heard about pet insurance plans many years ago, I'd thought about getting it for my dogs, but in those early days the plans & service didn't seem "worth it." Last year, having 2 senior dogs & 3 younger dogs, I finally decided it was action time. Barely 2 months after my policies became effective, I was taking one of my dogs to our regular vet for stitching up a mystery laceration on her leg (they alo put in a drain to help the healing). A few months after that, a different dog was rushed to emergency late at night for stitches for a large laceration that went right behind & underneath the right eye (just missing the eyeball). The ER Vet added a drain to help heal the cheek area where the epidermis had somehow become separated from the supporting tissues. Then just 3 days after that, I was back in the pet ER at midnight with yet another dog who had eaten a pound of rat poison! During the treatment period for the poisoning, my dog was seen by 3 different Vet Clinics (the ER, the regular Vet & a specialist) - ASPCA Pet Insurance covered all the claims with no extra questions nor any problems! Needless to say, I incurred a large amount of emergency vet bills in under 6 months. Having the ASPCA Pet Insurance was such a big help! Submitting claims is very quick and easy and I have no complaints about the customer service. I love being kept up-to-date with where they are in the processing of my claim & then beong able to view it all online. I'd prefer not to have
