Healthy Paws is the best

I reviewed all different companies and found Healthy Paws coverage and one annual deductible to be the best suited for my insurance needs.

Very positive overall

While it would be nice for Healthy Paws (probably like all pet insurance options) to be a bit more transparent upfront about what isn't covered (vaccinations, regular wellness checkups, and most annoyingly the checkup/consultation portion of what are otherwise emergency care visits), we've overall been quite satisfied. The website is user friendly and the reimbursements are prompt and painless. The only issue we had was in uploading supplemental medical record files when they were requested. HealthyPaws said we could email them but then didn't acknowledge receiving them until we uploaded them a very specific way on our third attempt. This held up our initial reimbursement and was frustrating but we ultimately got past it. Most importantly though, our puppy Louie had a serious health scare at 7 months and Healthy Paws was there for us so we're very grateful and will continue using them.

Deceptive policy description re: "continuing care"

Investigate your entire policy carefully before signing, including any Endorsements added to the policy. "Continuing care" for a chronic illness means claims payout only up to a certain amount of coverage over a pet's entire lifetime. Deceptive advertising and scammy underwriting.

5 stars for Trupanion…

Can’t say enough about Trupanion’s customer service. They are always so friendly so on point so ready to help and always ask about your pet. My little doggie had surgery less than 10 days ago and my reimbursement was deposited already. Thank you Trupanion ♥️

Trupanion should be ashamed…

So my dog gets pyometra and requires IMMEDIATE life saving emergency surgery. Fortunately she’s recovering but while I’m caring for her Trupanion informs me that the vast majority of my $2000 claim will not be covered because “getting spayed” is “elective” surgery. My options were “get the emergency spay or your dog will die”. That doesn’t sound like elective surgery to me. It even clearly states in the Trupanion benefits booklet that spays are not covered UNLESS they are the result of illness. Pyometra is a deadly infection of the uterus. This sounds like a no brainer to me… but in true insurance company form, Trupanion proves to be no different… “Thanks for your monthly premiums but good luck trying to collect.” Now I’m forced to appeal it and waste my time (while I should be caring for my dog) and the vets time (while he should be caring for everyone else’s pets). Trupanion should be ashamed.

Slow reimbursement

PetsBest is generally good in coverage and cost but they take 30-45 days to reimburse you for costs. With that extensive claim turn around time it almost makes it not worth it to choose this company. If they could get it done in a week like they used to three years ago I would still recommend this company.

I think you people are the greatest.

You’re entire process, from claim submission to end result, is so easy I am a fan of Trupanion as long as I have a pet.
