METLIFE HORROR STORY
There was a near-death experience for my 4-year-old cat in January. I was fortunate to have planned ahead buying insurance for him. I regret buying it through MetLife. In order to verify coverage and the timing of claim settlement, I contacted MetLife and was told that that filing claims was simple, and that payments would be processed promptly. After nearly three months, I have finally got his $5,000 claim payment. The app gave the impression of being both user-friendly and informative at first; after all, it informed me that my claim had been granted and that my funds would be paid within days. On the first contact, there was some misunderstanding and the person gave the vague instructions to "check my mailbox" because they were unsure of where the payment had gone. Following a second contact, I was informed that additional documentation from his visit was required, which I promptly provided. On the third attempt, I was informed that the vet had made a mistake in his record regarding the timing of his last vaccine, even though he was experiencing an acute pancreatic episode. I was told to submit more paperwork that day to clear things up. The next call confirmed that the last instructions were in error and that the funds were en route. The next call was to clarify that it would take 45 days for the appeal to be reviewed. On top of the $10,000 vet cost, I have already paid about $400 in interest. The app provides inaccurate information and requires persistent follow-up, which significantly prolongs the claim process. It is their carelessness that has caused all of this, so I wish they would pay my interest charges. This has the potential to completely devastate someone's life.

Scam
Don’t waste your money. They will say everything is “preexisting”. I tried to make a claim about several things that had never occurred before and they said it was all “pre existing” they will try and correlate every issue with something in a past chart to justify their denial. Then they raise the prices drastically. I was paying $75 then they jumped it to $100. No claims ever covered, no change in health status. Just an unjustified price hike.

Extended Waiting Period with MetLife Pet Insurance
It's been 15 business days since I submitted my claim to MetLife Pet Insurance, and yet it remains unresolved. My initial optimism upon enrolling in MetLife's pet insurance has been overshadowed by a frustrating experience with their claims process. At the outset, I was led to believe that claims would be processed within 5-10 days—a timeframe that seemed reasonable. However, I later discovered that this duration specifically refers to business days, a crucial detail omitted during enrollment. This lack of clarity left me feeling confused and increasingly frustrated. Furthermore, when attempting to file a claim for my pet, who had not required veterinary care in the past year, I encountered another obstacle. MetLife's requirement for a complete medical history spanning the previous 12 months was not communicated upfront, resulting in additional delays and complications. Contacting customer service for assistance yielded little empathy or support. Instead, I was informed that an extra 3-5 business days would be necessary to process the claim under these circumstances. Consequently, what should have been a straightforward process has stretched into a waiting game nearing 30 days. Such inefficiency is unacceptable, particularly concerning the health and well-being of our beloved pets. Enduring an extended wait without clarity on the claim's status is undeniably frustrating and stressful for any pet owner. In light of this disappointing experience, I have made the decision to sever ties with MetLife Pet Insurance. I cannot justify investing in a service that fails to fulfill its promises and lacks transparency in its operations. For prospective pet insurance customers, I strongly caution against choosing MetLife. Instead, I recommend exploring alternatives such as Nationwide Pet Insurance, which is reputed for its prompt and straightforward claim process. Learn from my mistake and select a provider that prioritizes efficiency and customer satisfaction. In conclusion, MetLife Pet Insurance's protracted claims process and inadequate customer service have left me deeply dissatisfied. Proceed with caution, as the frustration and disappointment may outweigh any potential benefits.

Denied ALL claims
I am leaving a negative review for this pet insurance due to them denying all claims submitted for my baby boy Lucas. He is a Frenchie who gets into everything. His vet suspects he got into cat poop and as we have several feral cats around the block, it seems reasonable he did. The vet recommended insurance as he said this breed is very subjectable to parasites (giardia is what he was diagnosed with). He was treated for this several times, getting better, then re-infecting himself. We had to stop letting him out and be himself due to our concern he would get sick again. He was also eating his poop, which of course did not help. But, he's a Frenchie so we went with the flow and advise of what we could do to address it. Finally decided to get him insurance. He starts getting sick again, giardia was the diagnosis along with coccidia. Treated him and he is now better. The 4 claims that I submitted were all denied due to his condition being deemed "pre-existing". It's not cancer! He did not have liver problems! How is this pre-existing if he gets better and then gets into things he shouldn't (accidental if you ask me). I read other reviews on Instagram and people share the same issues with this company. Also, please be advised I personally submitted my baby's medical records as I received emails from the company indicating they reached out to the vet and did not get a response. When I checked with the Vet, they indicated they received no such request. I personally submitted the records, then received an email weeks later, stating they were waiting for records from the vet. This is crazy! I canceled my policy as the cost for the insurance, is half my vet bill. Just be careful when shopping for insurance, not just because the price is good, does it mean they will provide you adequate service.

Surprisingly Pleased
We've never had insurance on our pets but with this puppy we decided to get accident/injury only insurance. It was quite reasonable, $270 a year. I could not justify $4,200 a year for Trupanion, despite their great reviews. Our main concern was future leg injuries or swallowing something he shouldn't have, which our other rottweilers have done. Then our guy bopped himself in the eye with a hose end and ended up with an ulcer on his eye and then entropion. I was anticipating they may consider the entropion congenital instead of being a result of the eye injury, figuring it's the job of the insurance adjustor to figure out how not to reimburse, but submitted a claim anyway. But, to our delight, they accepted the claim and all of his treatment, drugs, and surgery, and we were reimbursed before he even returned for this follow-up checkup at the vet.
Hunter's Claim
Our 5-year-old English Springer Spinger Spaniel, Hunter, developed a cough and severe nasal discharge in August of 2023. Our Vet prescribed medication for the condition, but nothing helped. Our Vet recommended that we take Hunter to have a rhinoscopy. I took Hunter to Metropolitan Veterinary Associates in Norristown Pennsylvania. Everyone there was wonderful. It was a very expensive procedure, but my wife and I would have spent the money even if we didn't have pet insurance. The procedure went well, and we were given a diagnosis of chronic rhinitis. I submitted our claim to Healthy Paws, and they covered 80%. I had the payment in three days. We use Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for all three of our English Springer Spaniels. I would highly recommend them. Thank You Healthy Paws.
Incredible service
ASPCA Pet Insurance is by far the best I have ever had. I purchased pet insurance for my dog and my cat the first day that I brought them home. You never know what can happen to your animals. What you do know is a veterinary bill will always be high. Unfortunately my dog developed severe allergies. Our pet insurance has covered the cost of all of his allergy, testing, his allergy medication and a main portion of his visits. It also covers a large portion of his prescription dog food. The reimbursement into our bank account is easy and so very helpful. Our cat at just one year old developed urinary crystals in his urine. He now has to be on a prescription cat food for the rest of his life to control this issue. After purchasing the prescription, dog food and cat food, I submit my receipt to ASPCA pet insurance and within two days I have a reimbursement in my bank account. I have saved thousands of dollars over the past two years between my dog and cats vet, bills, medication‘s and prescription foods. If I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to purchase pet insurance for your cat or your dog from day one. Most plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions. The small monthly payment to have pet insurance will be well worth it in the long run. You might not see it initially, but down the road as your pet gets older and things come up, and they always come up, you’ll be happy to have this insurance plan. Thank you ASPCA insurance. You really do care for our pets and their owners!

Very slow in paying claims
Their premiums have been reasonable and it’s easy to file claims on their app and they have paid all our claims in the 4 yrs we’ve had this insurance (minus deductible of course) for our boy with a liver condition. BUT they take 4+ weeks to pay, even with direct deposit.
OUTSTANDING
Over three days at two separate critical care veterinary offices our dog required over $10,000 of tests and care after collapsing for no apparent reason. Fortunately, our sweet girl made it through the ordeal and is on the road to recovery. The emotional roller coaster was made so much easier knowing we had Healthy Paws insurance and could say “just do whatever is necessary” at every decision point. Within one business day after bringing our sweet girl home the 80% reimbursement was deposited in our checking account and a representative from Healthy Paws had reached out to see how she was doing. Outstanding!
