Expensive and not really worth it
People are nice. Insurance goes up by $100+ dollars every year (and this is for a young dog with zero issues, zero claims and no pre existing conditions). Not worth it…oh and good luck trying to get information on your insurance unless you call them.

No longer affordable
Healthy Paws used to be good. However, I was notified that premium prices will now be more than double for my 2 senior dogs. I was paying a little under $300 total for both dogs, to now almost $700 for the same coverage. I would give 1 star, but giving 2 only because we never had issues submitting claims and getting reimbursed.

We have had Healthy Paws for both of…
We have had Healthy Paws for both of our dogs since they were puppies, so for close to 13 years. Overall, the claims process has been efficient, fair and timely. On occasion, claims sometimes have to be re-processed due to some glitch and rates have gone up, especially, as the dogs get older (but it is not due to their age specifically but rather across the board increases for all pets in the State's insurance pool), however, based on the different claims we have filed over the years, I would say it has been well worth the investment. I just hope when renewal time rolls around later this year that the rates won't skyrocket. Unfortunately, this is not unique to Healthy Paws, but is occurring with virtually all pet and human health insurance companies as costs increase due to improved technology/treatments and pets/humans living longer amongst other variables.

A good company
Very quick to reimburse me for my covered expenses. They also have excellent customer service. I only wish I had known about them much earlier because then my dog's visits and expenses related to Behavioral Health would be covered (pre-existing so not covered). I also wish the premiums were lower.

Claims process is OK, price increases excessive
Claims process is efficient. But I just got an email that my premiums are being hiked 59% year over year, following a 63% yoy increase the prior year. I haven't even met my deductible this year, so it's surprising to get experience-rated this aggressively.

Waste of Money
I took out an insurance policy on my dog as a young puppy. He has been healthy and never had a claim. After paying premiums for him for 5 years, and another rescue for an addition year, I finally filed a claim. My border collie was accidentally poisoned after licking a chemotherapy cream on my arm. After calling my vet, was told to contact animal poison control. There was a charge, and they advised emergency treatment because the prognosis was grim. Part of their charge was working with the ER vets for treatment. I immediately rushed him to the Emergency Vet hospital where he was evaluated and they followed a three week protocol as advised by poison control. He was given meds, daily blood work and watched for neurological symptoms. The last blood test was taken by my personal vet. We were lucky he didn’t ingest enough of the cream to kill him.. For that I’m extremely grateful, and have advised my own dermatologist to warn patients using the chemotherapy cream if they have pets. I submitted all of my dog’s medical records and bills for his total treatment to Healthy Paws. After submitting my claim, they didn’t even approve enough of the costs to even cover my deductible. I cancelled my policy on both dogs citing rising costs of premiums and dissatisfaction with the lack of reimbursement on veterinary services.
Bad business practices
We received a notice that our 24hour Pet Watch was transferred to Hartville - they downgraded our coverage and tripled our monthly premium for the two cats from $137 to $392. There is no account information, no way to see details. We received no notice prior to this email. We can’t even cancel the insurance. That this is legal in the US speaks leagues to why everyone is so pissed off. Businesses are run poorly and they cover their lack of management ability by treating their customers poorly, overcharging while failing to provide value and engaging in other unscrupulous behavior.
Worth it to have the little guy covered
I like that there are yearly reimbursements for wellness appointments, vaccines, dental cleanings, etc. Payouts are quick and I'm glad we have our little guy covered.

This was easy and what I like is that…
This was easy and what I like is that it covers both of my pets and I don't have to get multiple policies for each pet!
