Nationwide shouldn’t be taking payment…

Nationwide shouldn’t be taking payment for insurance if I don’t have insurance for my pet for 3 business days. It wasn’t transparently communicated that I have to wait for approval before I have insurance for my pet.

Premiums/Reimbursement/Deductible

I signed up with Healthy paws in 2012 for my two dogs with $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement. It was a great company until this year. I only have one dog now who is over 13 years old. My premiums have gone up alot in the last few years. My premiums change every December. In December 2023 it was 242.14. In December 2024 it went to $363.21. For December 2025 not only will it be raised to $411.54 but I am no longer eligible for the $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement. It will be $500 deductible with 70% reimbursement. Is this because I have an elderly dog? Earlier this year I had over 5 claims that did not process although they were submitted on the website which I had done for years. I had to speak with a Customer Liaison Manager to find the claims and process them. Soon after there were 3 more claims that were not processed and once again I had to speak to a Customer Liaison Manager to find the claims and process them. Healthy Paws also changed how payments are made. I always used a credit card. Now if you use a credit card you will be charged 2.99%. I asked if I could pay directly online through my bank as I do my other bills. I was told that was not an option. If I didn't want to pay a fee the premium would need to come out directly from my savings or checking account. Every time a company gets sold the customer is on the losing side. Don't sign up with Healthy Paws.

Healthy Paws Took My Money for 6 Years and Abandoned My Cat When He Needed Care

I insured my cat Simba with Healthy Paws since he was 4 months old. When he developed IBS at age 1, everything fell apart. Healthy Paws refused to cover any of his prescription food — even though regular food triggers his symptoms and makes him sick. They also denied exam fees and lab work, claiming they were “routine,” even though every visit was for IBS flare-ups. For six years, they kept raising my premium while denying almost everything that mattered. I paid responsibly. I followed the policy. His vet documented medical necessity. And Healthy Paws still found excuses to deny care. I finally cancelled because the insurance became useless and expensive. I don’t expect anything from them now — I just want other pet owners to know how miserable this company is to deal with if your pet develops a chronic condition.

Disappointing

After being a client for 7 yrs with 4 pet insurance policies, Healthy Paws denied my claim submission due to being 2 days late in uploading the documents. I understand the 90 day policy but hoped being a client who always paid on time would have earned us a little grace. They offer none. Extremely disappointed that in these difficult economic times no consideration is taken whatsoever. Approving the claim would have resulted in a reimbursement of around $135. Nothing to a large insurance company but everything to a person that rescues, TNR's, feeds dumped & feral animals and pays for medical care or euthanasia out of their own pocket. Shame on me for thinking they have the best interest of my pets at heart.

Healthy Paws is terrible

Healthy Paws is terrible. When your dog gets older when you will need the insurance they raise the rates anywhere form 300-1000%. Totally dishonest and takes advantage of it's customers. Also the customer service is horrible. Don't even bother with this insurance. Total rip off!!!!

CRIMINAL & PREDATORY COMPANY

I've had Healthy Paws on two of my dogs since 2014, they're now both over 10 yrs old. The rate hikes are INSANE, we just went from $350/month to almost $1000/month, with LESS coverage. This company is CRIMINAL. I've had FIGO pet insurance for my third dog and she is OLDER than the two that are with Healthy Paws- we pay less than $200/month for her for the EXACT SAME COVERAGE ($250 yearly deductible, no annual/lifetime limit, 90% coverage) and she's 14 yrs old! What the hell is going on? They really get you because now that my dogs are over 10 and have pre-existing conditions, we can't get coverage elsewhere without sacrificing coverage on their pre-existing conditions, so it's either stay with Healthy Paws and pay outrageous premiums or drop the coverage completely. We'll be dropping. Outrageous and criminal. I'm just sick. If you have a young animal and are considering Healthy Paws, know that the rates they start you at are extremely deceiving and if you plan to keep your policy on your pet for it's lifetime, BE VERY PREPARED BECAUSE YOUR RATES WILL SKYROCKET. My advice- STAY AWAY!
