BEST DECISION EVER!
After my two aging dogs passed away, we decided to get a puppy. We did not have insurance on the previous two dogs because they were old and we knew that if they contracted anything we weren't going to go to any extreme measures, but just let them pass naturally. But when we got the new puppy I knew that because he was so young, we would want to do whatever it took to take care of his health. We heard rumors of other dogs having cancer or ACL issues and how expensive it can be. So I took out insurance on the new puppy, knowing I would not likely ever use it. When Charlie was 1.5 years old, he started looking really sick. We took him to the vet but they didn't know what it was and wanted to wait it out. We did for a few days but he was obviously deteriorating before our eyes and he could not open his jaw. He was in obvious pain. So we went to a 24 hour vet hospital who had a great reputation for skilled vets. They didn't know what it was at first either and kept him overnight doing test after test. The entire thing cost $2,000!!! Finally they diagnosed Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM), an autoimmune disease that was basically attacking the muscles in his face. He was put on medication and has made a full recovery. However, we now have to wean him off the meds and see if he stays in remission. All this requires specialist vet visits (internal medicine doc) every few weeks at around $300 a pop! All this was covered by the insurance. Not only that, but they called me to see if my dog was ok. Their claim processing online is a snap too - they have a better web site than my health insurance - UHC. This is a GREAT way to spend money if you love your pet - get this insurance! If you don't need it ever, consider yourself lucky, but if you do need it, you will REALLY need it like I do.

Best decision we could have made
Selecting Trupanion to insure our dog, Abbey, was the best decision we could have made. Trupanion is true to the policy and has handled claims quickly and fairly. The straight forward nature of the policy makes it easy to predetermine uninsured items and have an accurate estimate of expenses. Trupanion, in our 8 year experience, has kept pace with improvements in animal healthcare by making optional procedures now standard coverage. Cost increases have been minimal for the value received. Trupanion provides real value for pets and peace of mind value for pet owners. Our dog, Abbey, is a rescue. She has broken her left rear leg, and torn the ACL/CCL in both her left and right rear legs. To say she has been an active dog would be an understatement. Trupanion has had her covered and made her life easier by affording her great care and the right care and enabled her to enjoy a great life, albeit with a few interruptions. Trupanion has been stellar in providing great coverage and exceptional claims service.

Trupanion is very reliable and efficient in sending funds and 90 coverage for an illness that is covered is great. Though monthly payment is costly but I think its worth it to have insurance for our loved Boomer, golden retriever.

Highly recommend Trupanion
My dog was 8-weeks when I got him from the breeder. She sent us home with a few puppy items including a month of coverage with Trupanion. I continued with it and when his was just a few months old he needed dental surgery for a narrow upper jaw. Then just after his 1st birthday we found out he had bilateral hip dysphasia. He has needed follow-up care including physiotherapy. We would never have been able to give him all of these treatments without Trupanion insurance and highly recommend getting it as soon as someone gets a pet.
