Continued Great Experiences
Process is easy to follow and response time is typically exceptionally quick. While you do have to get the vet notes in advance of submission, this is very simple by asking the vet. My experiences have all been positive with MetLife Pet Insurance and the cost is reasonable for the piece of mind.

AKC pet insurance is no longer any good. 10 years ago, they were great. As of 2-3 yrs ago, pretty bad.
I've had AKC insurance for over a decade. Up until 3 years ago, they handled claims quickly, fairly, and now that has all changed. On a $2400 vet bill, I got back about $330. I have two policies, and all the bells and whistles. My monthly premium is slightly over that. I spoke to them, got nowhere. They only pay out $50 for an exam, when in the NE it costs almost $200 for a dog. They don't cover a lot of things that they used to. My dogs are 3 and 4 and my cats are 3. So its not an old age thing nor pre existing conditions. I did shop around, got a lot of quotes, settled on Pet's Best.

If your pet gets sick , you are doomed
If your pet gets sick, this company will raise your rates, sky high ,with no limit. My dog got sick, and the premiums went up, without notice more than twice as much. There is presently a class action suit against them in California.

Do Not Buy
If you file claims with this insurance, your premiums go up. I got no notice and my auto payment was more than twice what it had been. There is a class action suit against them because they have no ceiling for how much they can raise your rates.. they are also obtuse as to what they cover, especially prescription medication.

For the past couple of years I’ve been…
For the past couple of years I’ve been paying over $100.00 a month for pet insurance and it covered nothing but one exam a year and 4 shots! I’m so happy to feel like I’m getting something for my money. I am very satisfied.

Filing claims is so easy. My policy has allowed me to get the best care for my rescue dog without worrying about whether I can afford it. Grateful for MetLife Pet Insurance.

It keeps getting worse
I’ve been using Pets Best insurance for my cats for several years now, and unfortunately my experience has become increasingly disappointing. Last year, my monthly premium increased to more than three times what I had been paying. When I contacted customer service to ask why or to explore options, I was told it was simply due to “market price.” There was no effort to help me review coverage, adjust my plan, or find any alternatives. This year, I tried to add the wellness package that includes chiropractic care, acupuncture, and other holistic services, only to be told that these can only be added within the first 30 days of the original application. After years as a customer, this policy feels completely unreasonable and inflexible. Like many pet parents, I feel stuck because changing insurance is extremely difficult once pets have pre-existing conditions. That said, as soon as I find a better and more transparent alternative, I will absolutely be switching. To make matters worse, claims that used to be reimbursed fairly quickly are now consistently delayed, often taking over a month.

One of the best!
So far I find Metlife has the best rates with the most coverage for my older Maine coon. When you have a pure bred animal it's always more expensive. But when you have a pure bred with chronic KD due to old age, and all the lovely things that come with it, I find their rate affordable. Like after 3 years of being with them I'm only paying $61.39 with 90% reimbursement up to $2000 and $500 deductible. I've gone with ASPCA and looked into about 10 other insurances and found that even after one year they don't offer as much coverage (like covering your pets meds, prescribed supplements and prescription food). If you have a cat that needs to be on a special diet and you are buying a lot of stuff to help their condition. Have you vet write you a script and with clinical notes. MetLife will cover it because they will recognize it's to help your pet's quality of life because of their medical condition. They also accept a lot of preexisting conditions. Most other insurances will not and unless your pet is 100% healthy prior to applying, you're SOL. They recognize genetic factors and age play a role in the health of your pet and do not penalize you. You just need to have good clinical notes when you submit your claim. Reimbursement is generally quick but ER visits or full workups like labs with a physical can take a bit longer to reimburse if you don't submit the clinical notes with the receipt. Citibank pays me direct to my Paypal and I send that to my bank account. So effortless. You have other options for reimbursement as well. Overall I will stay with them as my coonie is geriatric and has some old age stuff going on that really needs coverage. Without Metlife I'd have paid at least $500 more this year than I did. Yes, that's after the monthly insurance fee and deductible. Even if you break even it's totally worth it in case you need to get an ultrasound which is $600 usually, and CTscans are usually $3500, MRIs are about $6k. So anything major like that, getting $2000 back is better than nothing. If your animal is healthy just get a basic insurance for accidents. It's much cheaper. That's good for if your cat gets attacked or hit by a car. If your cat is indoors and healthy, I'd just keep up on their health and at the first sign of 'something' look into accident insurance or more because most insurance do not cover any preexisting.
