My experience with MetLife Pet has been mixed…
My experience with MetLife Pet has been inconsistent. When I first signed up, I had one policy for both of my dogs, but when I added a new dog to the household, I was told that was no longer allowed, so now I must have two separate policies. And the policy I have for my first dog was no longer offered, so they are different in scope and coverage, which is sometimes confusing. I also was told that my new dog had a "pre-existing condition" even though I signed her up as a 9-week-old puppy, because when she was diagnosed with a skin infection at 4 or 5 months old, there was a reference to itchiness in her files, which was classified as allergies. That was unexpected and annoying. Finally, sometimes I get reimbursed for claims quickly, within the time frame quoted in the policy. Other times, it takes longer and I have had to email and/or call and/or chat with someone to ask for an update, and I'm usually told that it's because they are waiting on SOAP notes, then the timeframe starts over. When I have provided SOAP notes, I have been told that it's processing and may take a little longer. Then, suddenly, a reimbursement notification will come along out of the blue. All of that said, most of the things I expect to be covered are covered. But one of my policies for my dogs has jumped in price to over $200 per month, and my younger dog is nearing $90/month, so I may have to look elsewhere to see what kind of options are available to me. I don't dislike MetLife Pet, but for what it costs, I'm not sure if it's worth it

The app is not user friendly and I frequently receive the dog off leash (creative and cute error msg, but not necessarily the best time for jokes when the customer can't complete task). The most inconvenient piece is that I have to call almost every single time to follow up on claim or dispute the denial. Now for some good news, all agents have been extremely helpful in resolving my claims. App, automation and process needs work.

Nationwide is good at poor customer service
Nationwide had been a good pet insurer for our family until recently when they more than tripled the monthly cost for less coverage. When I cancelled my account with them two days before my monthly payment is due, they took the payment out anyway and since they require payment one month in advance, they now have over $600 of mine that they will not refund for ten days. Not only that, I was not able to remove my credit card from their system when I cancelled. They are definitely not worth my time or money and I am happy to be insured under another company's policy. Poor customer service is obviously far more important to Nationwide than ensuring my dog's health.

The easiness and sometimes expediency of claims processing is of value. And, the phone representatives that I've spoken to in the past have been polite and professional which I greatly value. K.
