AWESOME insurance
Having had Newfoundland dogs since 1999, we finally learned out lesson regarding health insurance for them. Barkley, our smaller, 150lb female, cost 16,000.00 over a 2 week period in 2010. We lost her. We have since had 2 more Newfoundlands; 1 a rescue with multiple issues, and 1 who has just had his 2nd surgery. Healthy Paws has been with us through both of these glorious goofballs. The female died just last year and so I am left with my boy, Reggie, who just had TPLO surgery this month and in 2016 had 2 discs in his neck repaired. HP was and still is, the BEST!

Great coverage but deductible varies significantly by location
The coverage once the deductible is paid is very comprehensive with the exception of what Nationwide has deemed "pre-existing" even if it is a condition like a parasite that may be a new infestation versus a prior one. That said, at least a thorough explanation was provided in that instance and since then the coverage for all medical care, prescriptions, tests, dental work and even nail trimming is very comprehensive. They have improved their handling of claim payments by adding direct deposit thru Chase payments, and timing of payments is reasonably good. The only aspect of coverage that is unclear to me is the difference in deductibles between locations - in particular, two major metropolitan cities. For Boston area, the annual deductible is $250, yet for the same plan and same breed the deductible in Los Angeles is $100. That is not insignificant, especially when we have 2 dogs on Nationwide plans.

The Best
My dog 2 year-old dog Clark has been insured with Healthy Paws since I got him when he was 10 weeks. He has had numerous health issues since I adopted him, including two that required major surgeries. Earlier this month after he suddenly lost the ability to use his hind limbs, I rushed him to the hospital only find out he needed emergency spinal surgery to the tune of nearly 9 grand. Thankfully, I had Healthy Paws who not only covered 90% of my bill, but made it so easy. They even arranged something with the emergency hospital who were demanding payment in order to take him in so I didn't even have to front the money. They are always SO easy to work with, I always get right through to a very kind rep when I call and, unlike with most areas of my life, I have zero complaints! Can't recommend this enough!!
