Managed by a bot

This review is for the insurance, the vet has been awesome. I guess this is the wave of the future. They are proud of their AI service. Did I say Service? I am joking of course. I would rather "come back later when we are open". But they don't even mention that as an option. When you go online on a computer, they tell you to go on via your cell phone only. They won't help you on a computer. Everyone knows it's easier to download invoices and fill out forms via your cell phone. I can appreciate having it for an option but ONLY?. Oh and you can't put their app on your computer. I guess that makes sense since you can only interface with them via the phone anyway. Everything is designed to manage you so you do the work of filing. There is no one there to help. When you pick why you went to the vet, it has to match their preset names for why you went, and no free hand. So if you go in and your particular service was called something different or it was under a different filter - they won't accept it. They won't even evaluate it because the bot isn't "trained" to really help. and if you can't match up, you can't enter anything and they don't have anyone on line who can help. If you don't want to talk to someone, you're in the right place. I think I am going to find another insurance that's cheaper - so if I get bad service from a bot, I can at least feel better about how much it didn't cost me - for nothing.

It was easy to get covered once I connected with the right agent. When I started this process 2+ weeks ago the agent I spoke with was not helpful at all with regard to telling me where to find information. The agent I spoke with today made the process easy.

I haven't been overly pleased in my communication from Pets Best

I haven't been overly pleased in my latest experience as I had to chase a lot of it. I feel like I did all the work and nothing was done on their end. This had to do with chasing reimbursment.

Nationwide Pet Insurance is a WASTE of…

Nationwide Pet Insurance is a WASTE of money. They don't cover anything you need, after you submit a claim, even if it falls under your plan they don't cover it. The list of exclusions for things they do cover is enormous, you may as well be throwing money down the drain. Multiple times I have gone to the vet, expecting that the plan I'M PAYING FOR will cover me for at least something and when I submit a claim, $0 back. What's the point of insurance then? 2 years back I decided I wanted to add Wellness coverage, they told me they added it and I guess never did, because when I went back to the vet for a wellness check, they told me that wasn't in my plan. Awful business model, horrible customer service and the product they sell is basically a scam. You may as well be paying out of pocket for the "coverage" you get.

BUYER BEWARE

I switched from Healthy Paws to Trupanion because my veterinarian highly recommended it. I was told they were the best, that they paid vets directly, and that they offered better overall coverage. Unfortunately, that couldn't have been further from the truth!!! If you enroll your pet as a puppy before they've shown any symptoms of illness, you may have fewer issues. However, what they DON’T tell you is that they DO NOT cover cremation or burial-related expenses if your pet passes away due to an illness or disease. Those benefits are only covered if the death is the result of a qualifying accident or injury. Meaning, if they are hit by a car or suffer a TRAGIC accident. Then sure, they’ll cover it. (That’s the example the agent I spoke to gave me, which broke my heart!) If it’s due to a disease or sickness, well, good luck. Also, the coverage for the tragic-related end-of-life expenses requires an additional COST, which I wasn't made aware of. On top of that, they found what felt like endless reasons to deny my claims, even though my dog's condition was NOT pre-existing. Every time I submitted a claim, there seemed to be another excuse not to pay. “It falls under the same category”, “I see here your pet had a prior test done that might have been that”, and so on! To make matters worse, my annual premium increased by more than $1,600, which was the final straw and the reason I'm cancelling my policy. When I asked why, they stated it was because a lot of claims have been filed around my area for that specific breed. That’s an excessive increase for the “reason” provided! I truly wish I had stayed with Healthy Paws. While they may cost a little more, I always felt like I had real peace of mind. Their process was simple: pay your vet bill, submit your claim, and get reimbursed. I never felt like I had to fight for coverage or worry about hidden exclusions. I have an English Bulldog and have carried pet insurance since he was just 3 months old because I know how expensive veterinary care can be. Now that I'm cancelling, I'm honestly anxious because I know how important pet insurance is. We buy it for peace of mind, and unfortunately, Trupanion did not provide that for me. My advice: DO YOUR RESEARCH, read the policy carefully, and DO NOT rely solely on recommendations from your veterinarian. Make sure you understand exactly what's covered and what's not before you sign up.
