Amazing!
Trupanion has been there for us with our fur baby! As if the medical condition isn't stressful enough, Trupanion alleviates the financial burden. Customer service is personal and quickly responsive. We have never had issues with our claims and if we did, simply resolved over a phone call. I would recommend Trupanion to anyone that wants that extra comfort pillow with thier pets.

Pricey, but excellent coverage & customer service
We have had Nationwide Pet Insurance coverage (formally Veterinary Pet Insurance, VPI) for approximately 8 years. We have insured two cats, a domestic medium hair and a Persian. Though they were the same age, the policy for the Persian was always more pricey. During the early years of our policy, reimbursement requests were denied if the fax was not legible. It was easy to mistake "illegible" and "ineligible." We have not had that issue during the past 5 years or so. Reimbursement rates are decent. It would be better if pet insurance worked like human insurance - pay co-pay and receive bill for charges after insurance pays. Instead, we pay the full amount up front and request reimbursement. Fortunately, payments are fairly quick and we have the option to deposit the reimbursement directly into our bank account. Currently, our Persian is 12 years old and I will be surprised if we recoup what we pay for his comprehensive policy. While pricey, the perks of having pet insurance have included peace of mind and access to a 24/7 vet helpline. We have renewed our policy with the same employee since getting our first policies 8 years ago. Overall, customer service has been solid. When our domestic kitty passed away, there was an itty bitty oops after we notified Nationwide of our kitty's passing - they cancelled the wrong pet's policy. The corrected the error right away after we notified them. A few days later, we received a warm note expressing their condolences.

Major Medical is a scam.
My 9 month old Great Dane puppy was insured under the Major Medical plan with Nationwide. This way, if we had an emergency, we would be covered. He was not eligible for the Whole Pet plan since he was under 1, so we had been waiting patiently to change to that. When he went lame overnight, and the vet did not have a clear diagnosis in the beginning, Nationwide denied our claim because of a lack to diagnosis. So then they gave a diagnosis of septic arthritis. Eventually, after many expensive tests and treatment, and over 5 weeks of him being sick and multiple hospitalizations, we racked up bills totaling $10,000. Nationwide paid out about $1,100. Most were denied. Ultimately, he was found to have had a strep infection. A combination of surgery to drain the fluid, and an IV with antibiotics and steroids, he was completely cured. Now that he is over a year old, and I want to renew my policy, Nationwide says he is ineligible and they will cancel him. They say he has diagnosis, so they will cancel us before we can go to the better, more comprehensive plan.

She is doing just fine .with her mom, sisters and big brother.Thanks 2 VPI & Nationwide for helping with the doctors bills . we had insurance on our dogs since 2003 and when we took cats in we got insurance on them. we lost our baby chico sfter 15yrs of insurance.

Charging me next years premium before the policy starts in March is not right
Telling me my dog cannot have a teeth cleaning for a year because the technician said he had some tarter at his cleaning last year and calling it a pre-existing condition is not right. I am trying to do everything I can to keep my dog healthy and all you are doing is trying to save your company money be coming up with reasons for me not to see he get's the care and services he needs.

I feel much better
Called to resolve the issue with communication of records between insurance and my vet. Sara O. was able to see my account and aid me in a timely manner, even offering for me to email records to her so she could ensure they be forwarded on for my claim. I felt much better after speaking with her!
