Mismanaged Claims for my Dog Ziggy Leading to No Pay Out
I have usually have had a positive experience with previous Nationwide pet claims. However, my last experience with Nationwide was horrible. I submitted several claims for my pet Ziggy who had several medical exams and tests due to an ongoing cough he had. First, the time it took for the claims to be processed was appalling. It took over 60 days for them to be processed and I kept on getting an unclear answer why they were taking so long. Request after request was being made and I kept sending the same medical records for him over to Nationwide. In the end, it was determined that my pet Ziggy had a pre-existing condition regarding these medical exams and nothing was paid out for the claims. I do not believe that he had a pre-existing condition for he was adopted and no medical records existed for him. We started these specific exams and treatments when I had the insurance policy. My feeling is that Nationwide was trying to find every way to not pay out anything for these claims and found some type of technicality to not pay them out. I currently have four pet policies with Nationwide per insurance and I as now I don't see any benefit to having these medical policies if every claim is scrutinized, and in the end, they are eventually not paid out. Hopefully the next time I will have a better experience or I will be looking for another provider.

Delayed reimbursement
In general, I have been happy with Nationwide(VPI) in terms of turnaround time and claims paid but in the past few months, I waited over 5 weeks to get reiumbursed for our claims. That seemed a lot longer than in the past: and the claims weren't reviewed quickly either. I think it is also hard to make heads or tails of things covered/not covered but that is nothing new: insurance in general is confusing and hard to understand. Perhaps that would be an area to work on .

Thank you Nationwide for giving me one less stress while my sweet Windsor was sick and having to stay with the emergency vet. Knowing his insurance would cover and the ease of claim processing helped me be able to focus solely on Windsor getting better!

Helpful but took some time
i had a substantial claim to file after major illness, and after 3-4 weeks I received a notice that there would be no reimbursement. I called Nationwide and a very helpful representative explained that was a mistake. The claim was reviewed and after 2 weeks a sizable reimbursement was issued. Most importantly, my dog received the care she required.
