I purchased this policy through my…

I purchased this policy through my work, for my 2 year old GSD. It sounded cheap at first with payroll deductions but when I added it up, its over $750.00 a year premium, that alot for a 2 year old. The policy became effective in Feb, 2026. In mid february my dog had some black urine that we saw vet about he was diagnosed with anaplasmosis, I didnt place a claim. In march my dog suddenly had trouble urinating where he was mistakenly dx with tick borne disease, then 2 days later was rushed to university vet hospital where he was diagnosed with prostatitis. Between the 2 visits vet bills were over $2000. I put in claims for both vet bills and upon checking status will be reimburses 57.50 for his nexgard. They claim this was a preexisting condition. I'm not sure how this can be considered a preexisting condition he was having no trouble until feb. I plan on calling to fight them for this, I plan on cancelling this policy after I fight them. I didnt get this before in my paperwork but just noticed it on the website explanation of benefits that he is not covered for cruciate or behavioral issues- this was not disclosed at the purchase of the policy. I'll file a complaint with my state insurance board. I would NOT recommend this insurance to anyone, way too pricey for apparently very limited coverage. Update: I noticed that my dog had a cruciate exclusion and he had NEVER had any problem with any of his legs! Sadly I had to put my 2 year old dog down earlier in the week, I blame nationwide partly for this, there were so many exclusions I couldn't have extensive testing done to find out what was causing him such severe pain. It seems Nationwide is NOT on your side.

Not worth the headache

They want a year worth of medical records on your pet. The information they request for a little 800 dollar a year insurance policy is insane. My dog had more coverage without all this extra. It is insane to me that they require more information for your pet then a 100,000 life insurance policy or medical insurance ask for a human. I just don't think it's worth all the crazy emailing of a years worth of medical records. I can get her insurance cheaper and better cone to find out. Insurance that pays the vet directly without all this headache. I just thought it would be easier to have it come out of my paycheck, but really it's more of a headache with less coverage.

SCAM ARTISTS

Scam artists. Complete rip off. The company preys on people who lack the time or patience to fight them on every single claim. They will scour your vet bill for the tiniest whiff of anything pre-existing, and then deny the entire claim even if the purpose of the visit had nothing to do with something chronic that's just noted as part of the pet's history. These clowns 100% get paid commission to deny claims. EDIT: not surprisingly, you’ll now see a response from MetLife below inviting me to contact them. Don’t be fooled by this free PR move masquerading as genuine concern for customers. They had their chance, and chose instead to repeatedly deny valid claims.

Can’t afford not to have Trupanion

I have had Trupanion for all of my dogs. I can’t say enough good things about it. Although it is not inexpensive, I can’t afford not to have it. One of my dogs was hospitalized for three days. The bill was about $5k. She was discharged on a Saturday night. I submitted her claim after we got home. The claim was paid Monday afternoon. I can’t recommend Trupanion highly enough.

Don't be fooled by the Embrace!

Why would Embrace make it impossible for you to set up automatic pay for claims paying via EFT? The longer they hold on to your money, the more interest they make off your payment! I tried online, and it failed every time. In the small print below, it said, "Please call customer service." My payment is debited directly from my checking account. I had no issue with that process. Then I had a claim because I had a puppy who was vomiting, and it was his first visit with me. They used the first visit as a pre-existing condition and said that if he stayed free from vomiting for one year, he would be covered. I asked how that was a pre-existing condition? They vaguely explained, then they said he had an underbite, which was a pre-existing condition. So, the breeder I got the dog from gave me a certified health check. I gave it to them and said remove those pre-existing conditions he was checked when he was born more than once. So they read it and removed it from the file. All of these insurance companies are scams! Cookies weren't an issue when I was uploading my banking information for payment.

Be Careful

I had this Pet Insurance for years for my three dogs. And for a while, everything was great and I had no issues. As my female dog was aging, the premium continued to skyrocket. When she was six she had mast cell cancer. At first her cancer treatment was covered because I was paying for the policy for major medical. I was paying $384 a month just for her coverage. And then I received a letter in November saying when her policy was up in December, they would not renew her. Because of her previous history with cancer, that was a death sentence for my dog. They didn’t contact me to see if I wanted to change the plan to something different. They just canceled her policy. Because they just canceled her policy, I am unable to ensure her with anyone else because she is considered pre-existing. Because she no longer has insurance treating her cancer is nearly impossible. I feel after years of paying premiums to this company. They should’ve at least given me an option for a different policy. They know that by canceling her without giving me an option for a different plan that I was no longer available for insurance with anyone else either.

Concentrating on Bella Instead of a Financial Burden

When my sweet little Yorkie started showing signs of some health issues, it was a huge worry to me. Spot Insurance helped take some of that worry away as far as financial worry and helped me concentrate on the most important thing .. diagnosing Bella's illness and starting her on a treatment plan. So far she is doing well just taking medication. Thank you, Spot, for the quick action on our claim.

Post-application discrepancy

At the end of the application process screenshots were taken. I had applied for a $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement at a certain price. The email received showed the correct monthly price and deductible; however, reimbursement is shown at 70%. I emailed the company requesting clarification/confirmation and a number of days later have received no reply. Hoping when the policy information is received that it will match my application for coverage desired. Meanwhile, glad I have screenshots showing the policy number and details stated above.
