I normally don’t leave negative…
I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but my pup had surgery about a month ago to remove a growing mass that thankfully turned out to be benign. The surgery was quite expensive, so I used the portal to file a claim. Unfortunately, the claim was denied because during our waiting period over a year ago we noted that our pup had a cyst on top of the skin (similar to a pimple) in the general area, but not the same area of the growth that later developed below the skin a year later. I’ve tried explaining multiple times that this is not the same issue that was originally noted in the chart, but I haven’t had any success getting that across. Prudent Health did open a dispute on the claim and reached out to our vet about a week ago, but there haven’t been any updates since. When I contacted my vet, they said they didn’t appear to have received the documents (or they may have been deleted accidentally), so I asked Prudent Health to resend them. I’ve reached out again to request that the additional document request be resent, but this whole process has been a nightmare and has created a lot of administrative burden. I do want to point out that the representatives I spoke with were very friendly and seemed genuinely empathetic and understanding, which is why I still gave two stars. However, the overall experience reminds me of insurance practices from when preexisting conditions weren’t covered and insurance companies used whatever pretext possible to deny the claims. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here but eerily reminiscent. I’m hoping this is just an administrative oversight and that it gets resolved soon.

After eight years with Healthy Paws
After eight years with Healthy Paws, my premium is increasing from $155.33 to $339 per month — a 118% jump. What began as about $35 per pet has now risen to $131 for one dog and $208 for the other starting in August. I understand that premiums can increase due to age, inflation, and rising veterinary costs. But an increase of this magnitude feels extreme and was never clearly communicated when I enrolled. Reasonable adjustments are expected — doubling the premium is another matter. Because of this increase, I ultimately had to cancel the insurance. What makes this particularly frustrating is that for one of my dogs I paid premiums consistently for years and barely used the policy. The explanations provided so far (age, region, veterinary trends) are very general and lack transparency. Without concrete data or clear rate filings, it’s difficult to understand how such a dramatic increase is determined. I chose pet insurance so my dogs would be protected as they age, not so I’d be priced out of coverage when they might need it most. At the very least, long-term customers deserve clearer transparency around how premiums are calculated and why increases of this scale occur.

Crazy Reason for Denial
I waited more than an hour on the phone to contest my claim that my dog's mass was a pre-existing condition. His waiting period ended on November 20th 2025. I saw the vet on February 19th because a small bump on his leg had started to turn scabby over the past few weeks. Told the vet during the visit that I had first seen the bump "maybe a couple months ago?" They denied it based on that claim- because "a couple months ago" would technically have been ONE DAY before the waiting period. Nevermind that it didn't start getting scabby until a few weeks ago. What a scam.
