My experience has been acceptable until recently making them great
My experience has been acceptable with Spot until recently last month I lost my best friend of 8 years. Spot answered all my questions and concerns regarding his coverage and overall policy information. The representatives were very responsive and respectful. They didn't transfer me to 4 different people or place me on several holds during our conversation nor was I rushed off the phone like other companies. Even after the called ended I received a voicemail from a representative who informed me that she'd heard of my recent loss and the remorse in her voice was so genuine that it brought me to tears. Spot has made my experience with insurance vastly different.

They do not care
Be careful! Trupanion will do ANYTHING to deny claims citing preventative care, previous conditions or symptoms such as “scratching”. Could it be an allergy? NOT covered. Has your pet had an ear infection in their lifetime? NOT covered if at the time they did not have insurance because every ear infection thereafter, even years after, will be related to the one ear infection. Your pet has a chronic illness, is on meds and your vet has warned your of potential liver issues? Well don’t expect them to cover labs to check their liver function because they don’t care. Don’t be fooled by their cute pet photos or marketing. They do NOT care about your pet. They want your money and will suddenly increase your monthly premiums 50% (165 to 250) claiming market adjustments reasons.

Absolutely the worst company on the…
Absolutely the worst company on the planet. I paid for the insurance wellness and accident and unfortunately my dog got hurt and tore his ACL which is a tendon and it completely tore in half and it requires orthopedic surgery. They denied the claim stating that ACL injury is an illness, not an accident if anyone believes that I have some swamp land to sell you. Absolutely the worst company in the world and if you buy their insurance, you’re just paying the executive salaries because they do not disperse money for their clients. I filed a complaint withconsumer affairs and hopefully somebody will do something because they are a complete fraud. Do not waste your money.

Claims rejections & Non Existent Customer Service
CLAIMS REJECTIONS: I submitted a small claim for diagnostic bloodwork, that is explicitly covered in my policy ("diagnostics performed by a Veterinary provider... such as blood tests"). NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE: I tried the in-app and website chat functions, which were malfunctioning (both times I tried them 2 weeks apart) I tried to call the customer service line... and never was able to get through to a representative after spending 30+ minutes on hold. I finally gave up on the phone call and wrote an email to pet_info@metlife.com... 12 days ago and still have not received a response. Lots of functionality in the app for things that benefit Metlife (updating payment methods, uploading documents, etc), but nothing that supports the customer experience. I am truly amazed at how poor the customer experience is, how challenging it is to get even a small claim approved, and I will definitely be canceling my pet's policy with MetLife as soon as possible.
So easy & the peace of mind is worth every penny!
My dog had a weird eye thing going on the night before my son was to have surgery, all the nerves... it was SO nice that I didn't have to make a choice on whether to take him to the vet that night (emergency vets are expensive and I swear mine only gets sick at night or on a holiday/weekend) and I could have peace of mind going into my sons surgery the next morning! The yearly payment for pet insurance is worth that peace of mind EVERY TIME!

Fetch denied coverage for my friend’s dog in an emergency situation. Then five months later, sent her a renewal bill—for her dead dog.

SPOT on service!
This is my 3rd year with coverage for my 4yr old Boerboel. I got the coverage cuz she’s a giant dog breed. Last year I made my first claims for regular/preventative care and the claims were processed timely and with direct deposit. My girl had an unfortunate accident this year and needed a very expensive surgery for her torn Cruciate Ligament. I was scared that the underwriting would be scrutinized and a longer process BUT, it was also handled and reimbursed within a week! That was such a relief when your dog’s health and personal finances were in need. Great job SPOT. You truly are the best plan for man’s best friend.
