Happy to have Petshealth Insurance

My wife and I adopted two German Shepherds about three years ago. Never having had dogs previously, we were pretty clueless about the potential for large medical expenses (I’ve had cats my whole life; they don’t get into much trouble while sleeping all day!). Dogs, on the other hand, seem to be a magnet for problems. Before we explored Petshealth Care Plan Insurance, one of our dogs was bitten by the other dog, opening up a huge gaping whole near his hind quarters. Several weeks and thousands of dollars later, our dog was better. If we’d had pet insurance then, we would have save a TON of money. Since we’ve had insurance from Petshealth, we’ve had to deal with a plethora of “issues” with our dogs, and thankfully, our insurance has been there for us. Frankly, we downgraded to “basic” insurance to cover accidents, injuries, etc., which doesn’t provide as much benefit as the previous plan, but this is more affordable and fits well into our budget. We urge our friends with pets, particularly dogs, to investigate pet insurance; specifically, Petshealth Care Plan. Appreciatively, Jim Lackey Carlsbad, CA

Premium almost doubled

Last year, my 2-yr-old Chihuahua was treated for an insect bite at a vet and I filed a claim. In their defense, the claim process was smooth. When the renewal notice came recently, the premium had practically doubled. They cited several reasons such as inflation(huh? I thought what we experienced over the last year was closer to deflation and inflation), claim patterns, etc. I am so switching back to another company we used to have.

Claim comments

All transactions with Embrace personnel have been pleasant. They notify each step of the way. As for claims, over the last 2 yrs. I've had to send claims back for review a couple of times. Also in checking around similarly priced plans/benefits, I notice that most other insurers have $8000-$9000 yearly maximum while Embrace is $5000, I wasn't happy about that.

Impressed!

I never thought we would pay for pet insurance, but when we got our 5 year old English Bulldog "Phoenix" from her original owner last December she urged us to look into pet insurance. She had just switched over to Embrace for all of her Bullys and highly recommened we seriously look at the coverage. I am so glad we did! We took Phoenix in for her Ortho check up and it was discovered she had a mammory tumor. We submitted the claim and the claim was paid within 15 business days. In May I submitted another claim for Incontinence, which took a little longer to get paid, but the claim was paid. We are so happy with Embrace and will continue to recommend to all.

Wow! What a great company!

I have been a new member for almost a month now for two rescue dogs. Not only have they been upfront about what they will and will not cover (and it is fair), their customer service has got to be some of the best! I get immediate confirmation of my claim submissions and very prompt returns of benefit payments. My dogs have had a few unforseen problems since the adoptions and Embrace has covered everything allowable under my plan quickly and completely. I reserved judgement on them until now (I did give them a preliminary review when I first used them) but I now have enough experience to say I would highly recommend them to everyone!!!

You are Incredible

A little over a year ago our new 3 momth olg pup "STORM" had a horrible accident when he was attack by a neighbor's malamute. The dog grabed Storm's leg by getting his head under our fence . The leg was just barley hanging on. We rushed him to the emergency vet.clinic where they we able to save his life and with 4 surgeries they were able to save his leg.We had only taken Embrace out a few days before this happened. You were there from the beginning and followed us through the entire process...not only paying our claims; but also encourageing usas we went through the ups and downs of Storm's recovery. A couple of month ago he started having problems with his left back leg. He had a luxation of the patella and had surgery to keep it in place and is now recovering form that surgery. EMBRACE has been right there for us. In less than a month after the surgery, the claims have been paid to our satisfaction. It would be great if our our health insurance would be as efecient. As long has we have dogs ,we'll hvae EMBRACE!

Existing conditions suddenly appear

We received three months of PetCare insurance when we adopted our dog three and a half years ago. After the three months were up we renewed the policy. At some point however, my husband was issued a new credit card and somehow the monthly PetCare fees did not transfer over. We discovered we were uninsured just when we actually needed the insurance. PetCare *very nicely* offered to issue a new policy if we paid for the full year in one payment, which we did, and naturally, that particular vet trip wasn't covered as there's a waiting period. More important, however, is that there were exclusions in the new policy that we were not informed of--mammary tumors were excluded as we'd had a suspicious bump biopsied and removed at the time the dog had been spayed, and any skin allergies as she had once licked a paw raw. We still have no idea if this was an allergic reaction, a bug bite or simply habit (she's a paw licker nd that's that). In retrospect it seems to me that had PetCare reinstated the existing policy neither of these conditions would have been excluded. And, as I said, we were not aware that the dog supposedly had allergies. We did know the lump had been pre-cancerous. It was removed when she was spayed and that was that, in our minds. Well, this past November I discovered a lump on her rib cage that the vet thought was a fatty cyst. It was *not* a mammary tumor. We had it biopsied just to be safe. At the same time she'd been scratching tremendously. The vet decided it was probably a food allergy. She switched us to a special food. When we submitted the claim for the office visit and the biopsy we received a letter saying the vet's info had not been submitted. This was *after* a phone call saying they'd received our claim. The secretary at the vet's said she would fax the info again despite having the time and date of the original submission in her files. We then received a letter saying that the claims were for pre-existing conditions and there would be no payment. The vet's office basically said this was not so, the cyst was different from a mammary tumor, and they resubmitted yet again, specifying that the biopsy of the cyst was not not allergy related nor a mammary tumor. The claim was still denied. I suspect that anything even vaguely related to cancer of any sort or anything on her skin will also be denied. We had just renewed shortly before all of this took place. Don't know if it's worthwhile renewing next year. It seems to me that they will link anything they possibly can to supposed skin allergies or cancer...So I don't know that I'd recommend them. I'd do more research first, see what people say about other companies. Only if they're worse than this would I do so. I'm thinking that a savings account with a decent interest rate might be a better way of setting aside money for pet illnesses...Not sure but at least I wouldn't deny my own claims. In the case of the only claim we ever made that wasn't denied, the reimbursment didn't nearly equal the outlay. I think it was about one quarter or one third of the actual fees I'd paid. I'd say "buyer beware"...And I agree with the reviewer who said they try to wiggle out of legitimate claims. The phone staff are lovely (when you finally reach them) but the powers that be are less than just.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance, Canton Ohio

They use their own fee schedule, so even if they pay 80% for a particular malady, it is 80% of what they say is reasonable for your area. It is not based on your actual charges. I found this misleading.

Good Insurance

I like this insurance company because when i filed my claim for my dog it was quickly processed and i received my check in a timely manner. my dog is epileptic and it feels good to know that she won't be dropped because of this illness. however i don't like that they have a limit to the coverage and after she has exhausted that she won't be covered anymore. i also think their prices are a bit on the high side.

A Great Inurance Plan

I would highly recommend this company for pet insurance! Our dog had the Pets First Plan. My dog needed back surgery for a herniated disc and the day after surgery, the pins broke. So, she had to have surgery again to replace the pins. Those also broke soon after the surgery and could not be replaced. Because the vet could not assure us of success with no pins, we had to make the awful decision of putting her down. Our vet bills came to about $7000 and after a week of processing the claim, we received a check for $5600 from Pets Best within ten days! Their customer service is also wonderful, they were friendly and easy to talk to. When we are ready to get another dog, we will be sure to purchase our insurance from Pets Best!
