Can we humans be insured by Healthy Paws?
We don’t typically write a lot of reviews, but in this case it is a must! When it comes to pet insurances, we are seriously in good hands with Healthy Paws. Our story began last year when we adopted a puppy; our little Humphrey came from a very good breeder with a good family health history; did it matter?...not in this case and like people, things can go wrong sometimes health wise even at a young age. He was diagnosed with something similar to Crohn’s Disease (in humans) but in order to find this out, we ended up having to go through a process of elimination of a series of very expensive tests; from x-rays, to an ultrasound, to an endoscopic procedure with biopsies. Healthy Paws was with us every step of the way, starting with the hassle free and ease of submitting claims, no questions asked and no bad surprises; “what we were insured for, is what we got”. Each time, the claims were reviewed quickly; and the reimbursements received promptly. Their website is also very user friendly and the information provided very clear; their live Customer Service Agents, all excellent. Finally, I would like to add, that, as if this is not satisfactory enough, after each procedure that was done on Humphrey, Healthy Paws would follow up to see if he was feeling better...asking us to take care of him and not to worry about the rest! ...come on!... does your doctor’s office or health insurance company do that? It is as simple as that: if Healthy Paws could insure us, humans, we would switch instantly! Marie-Christine & David

All pet owners should have Trupanion for their young healthy pet
I have Trupanion for little over three years for my two dogs and two cats. I was moving from Canada to the US and I was afraid of vet costs in a new country. My four lil ones were healthy by the time insurance started. Trupanion deductible is by illness/injury and not by year. If your pet has several illnesses or injuries, you will need to pay the deductible individually to each case. I’ll confess that I was upset sometimes with Trupanion when processing claims for first time type of illness and at one moment it took me over 4 months to be paid. I wanted to cancel insurance and a Trupanion manager called me and convinced me to stay and that delayed claims would be investigated and they would do their best to avoid that again, which they have doing great so far. The insurance payments doesn’t increase with the age of the pet. I also noticed that claims were processed faster after I established a primary vet too. My oldest one, a miniature schnauzer, was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Trupanion has been awesome with all the claims I have submitted so far. I paid the $500 deductible and now they cover 90% of the treatment cost. I will never pay any more copayment for diabetes related bills till the rest of my lil one’s life. It was worse every penny paid the last few years. If you have a healthy young pet, I’ll definitely recommend Trupanion.

Bait and switch at it's finest.
Buyer Beware!!! We got a service dog and thought that it would be helpful to get insurance for him since he does so much for me. We also got the wellness policy for him. We knew he was allergic to chicken, but soon found out that turkey was much worse when we had to pay $1,500 for an emergency vet. When we filed the claim, they paid very little of it because when he was a puppy he had worms from the breeder. They said that because he had diarrhea from the worms then it was too soon to pay a claim for his diarrhea for his allergic reaction to the turkey, even though it was a totally unrelated issue. We've had so many issues with them not paying our claims, and kicking back our wellness claims (even though they said we could buy vitamins at a pet store) because the vet needed to add more notes to their already clearly written receipt. We never received a discount for multiple pets since we added our second dog as soon as we got her a few months after my first service dog. We cancelled our policy after four years because they constantly increased the rates each year by a significant amount despite never paying a claim, and the dogs are now only four years old. They will live to be about 10-15 years old since they are Doberman Pinchers. We just got an email stating that they "inadvertently" charged us for another month of coverage even though we cancelled, along with 67 other people who also cancelled that month. They can't even keep their records straight after we dump them!

Very pleased with Pets Best
Very pleased with Pets Best. Quick to process claims, friendly and kind customer service people when you call them. Hold times are sometimes unpleasantly long, but that's becoming the norm for all phone-in customer service during Covid times. Highly recommend Pets Best. When renewal comes up, I plan to add the routine care coverage option as well, seems very reasonable cost (can only be added at policy renewal date).
