Great Customer Service

Not the company they used to be

I have been using 24 Pet Watch since 2002 for my Leonberger, Julie, and then added my other dog, Gable, also a Leonberger in 2006 after he joined my family. Both were 8 week old puppies when I insured them. My first issue was in 2004 when my first dog had a UTI with struvite crystals and then all UTI's were then not covered because they deemed it a pre-existing condition. I spoke with my vet who said that struvite crystals are not necessarily caused by kidney disease and that it was as a result of the infection. Not to mention that the infections were treated after she was insured with them and she had been insured with the company from the time I brought her home. At the time I didn't contest it, both because I was told 18 months without infection would have to pass before it could be re-evaluated. Since no infection happened in 10 years I didn't bother to address the issue. Fast forward then years and she got a UTI. I submitted the claim a few months after the treatment and immediately after her death. The claim amount is a whopping $39 and they are refusing to pay on the grounds it is a pretty-existing condition. Like ten years without an infection is not enough time to prove it isn't a chronic kidney condition that is pre-existing! Now they claim when I said I want to contest their decision that it can't be contested because she is deceased and re-evaluation can only be done for a live animal going forward for future claims. I argued this as well and now they say there is a gap in her medical history for that time period. Of course there is a gap! She wasn't treated for the ailment in that time period! As others have complained getting through to speak to a customer service rep takes a minimum of 30 minutes, up from just a few minutes and then about ten minutes in past years. They give you tha option of leaving you name and phone number to call you back, but they never do. When I called the day I had to put my dog down to notify them of her death after waiting over a half hour I left my name and number, but there was never a return call. When I called back a few days later after the weekend passed and complained a return call was never made an empty apology was made. They then listed her date of death as the date I called instead of the actual date. This resulted in the reimbursement for the remainder of the billing period to be incorrect by $10. They did eventually right this error, but I had to point it out to them.

I am so impressed with Healthy Paws!

It was a HUGE comfort knowing we had Healthy Paws on our side as we were going through a very traumatic situation when our dog ruptured a disk in his back. We knew it was going to be expensive, and wondered if there would be any issues with such a large insurance claim. Healthy Paws acknowledged receipt of the claim right away (as always), and processed the claim within 2 days - I just received the check less than a week after filing. We are great fans of HP and their mission, and we tell every pet-owner we know about how great they are. Their service ranks among the best of any company I've ever dealt with, and it is wonderful to know there are real people there who care about pets as much as we do.

Total misrepresentation

Their website doesn't tell you that the deductible is per incident, making it more like car insurance than pet health insurance. They have an add-on, $10 extra per month, for prescription pet food---supposed to pay 25% up to $250. But they don't tell you that the deductible applies to this as well, so that if you have chosen the $250 deductible, you are paying them for nothing! Also, I canceled on 12/30/14, was billed on 1/02/15, and told I would be credited. But conveniently for them, they didn't count it until 1/07/15, and did not give me full credit. There again, I paid them for something I did not receive.

First claim was a breeze!

My little Chihuahua, Pickles, developed Pancreatitis. He was so sick and it was quite scary. I was a little nervous submitting my first claim, not knowing what to expect. However, it was so easy. Trupanion approved it and sent me cheques right after I submitted each invoice from the Vets. Pickles is now back to eating and playing. Thanks Trupanion!

Outstanding!!

Having ASPCA Pet Health Insurance allowed us to extend our beloved Beagle's life. For five of his thirteen year life he endured several surgeries and monthly vet visits. His ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan was always there for him. When we lost him this past December, not only did we get a sympathy call from ASPCA Pet Health, but we received a sympathy card and photo frame with an inspirational quote. The genuine kindness will always be in our hearts along with the loving memories of our Joey. I can not imagine having a pet and not having the security of having insurance for the unimaginable. I can't thank them enough for all the help over the years.

Quick claim payment, no hassels

My 3-yr old Pembroke Welsh Corgi started having seizures and was evaluated through physical examination, blood work, and an MRI. Trupanion paid 90% of costs of the blood tests, MRI, and anti-seizure medication, which totaled over $2K. I simply called Trupanion to submit the claim and emailed copies of the invoices. I was responsible for a $100/illness deductible, 10% of the covered costs, and the physical examination costs. Trupanion processed my claim very quickly, and their claims personnel were very polite, understanding, and helpful.

This IS the BEST pet insurance.

My dog was very ill and needed to be seen by the vet. There was lab testing and x-rays. Then all the medications. I spent over $500.00. I turned in my claim the day of the visit. Ten days later the reimbursement was back in my checking account. Pets Best is the easiest and fastest pet insurance I have used. I have had several dogs and used "other" pet insurance. I recommend this to all my friends and family.

so-so

OK, so, granted, I chose Trupanion and they have reimbursed us a lot of money for our dog that suffers sever allergies. And that has been good. They have a direct deposit for claims and claims are handled very quickly. Another good thing about them. We have 2 dogs, one is young the other not. Our biggest gripe is They ONLY cover dental extractions, so the anesthesia and cleanings are always out of pocket, though cleanings prevent extractions, so go figure. Customer Service is cheerful as long as everything goes quickly and smoothly. Also, often the reps talk at you. Like a car salesman, they don't really want to slow down and hear the customer. connecting to a client is good, but if the rep does not sympathize, that;s fine, just don't make the client feel like they're wasting your time. As soon as a problem arises, they become curt and rush you off the phone. not cool.
