Delays Delays Delays

I signed up with Trupanion last November for my two senior dogs. One dog had a UTI within the 18 month prior window, so I am aware that any UTIs are considered pre-existing and will not be covered. That same dog ended up having to be admitted as her blood work returned abnormal kidney values, suspected kidney disease or addison's disease. Upon further tests, they found a blockage in her ureter causing urine backup into her kidney, which was then causing it to fail. This required surgery as soon as possible - quoted at 10k. Surgery was scheduled for 11a the following day, and required pre-approval from Trupanion as the vet agreed to have them pay directly to them. 12pm days of surgery rolls around and still no word. Turns out they were trying to relate her issue to the UTI, therefore not covering it. After multiple phone calls, my vet was able to push the request through and they approved. Surgery costs were to be paid directly to vet and any cost other than surgery (her stay of 5 days) I had to pay out of pocket and that would be paid to me. This was almost 3 weeks ago. They have not paid my vet and they have not paid me for my portion (6k). When I call to ask for an update, I get the same answer, that they are waiting on urine analysis results from my vet at the time of admitting. AGAIN trying to tie this to a UTI that was non-existent. I've spoken to three vets and all of them are dumbfounded as to how this is even a question with them.

Great service, fast payment

Our puppy got very ill. When I saw the estimates, I was concerned for her health, but also for the bill. The team confirmed that we were covered and setup direct repay to get the payments processed even faster. The submission process was simple, and the status was very helpful. ASPCA is highly recommended! Especially liked the follow-up on the puppy's health. It was very kind as well.

If you have a heavy chewer, GET IT!

We have two Boxers. They LIVE to chew and they chew HARD. The male, Malcolm, also likes to swallow the evidence. He has since he was a puppy. I had to hide every toy in the house for the first 5 years and get them out only when I had time to sit in the floor and play with them. He needed watching 24/7. He could not be trusted not to eat his toys. Even got the top off a black kong toy-- the hardest one! He has had to undergo I think, 5 intestinal surgeries in his lifetime to get the toys out. He nearly died once and has lost 8 inches in his intestine. The female, McKenzie, recently went through a very scary bout with Trigeminal Neuralgia and had to be put on a feeding tube, had a reaction to that and it took a long time to recover. Trupanion was there for us every step of the way. I have always counted on them and they have never argued or balked at any request. I highly recommend them to any pet owner. You never know what issues a new puppy might have.

Healthy Paws is the best!

I'd never had pet insurance before but when my Puggle puppy was eating things he shouldn't and winding up in the Pet ER, I decided it was time. I went to work reading reviews. I decided Healthy Paws was the way to go and boy was that a good decision! Our sweet, exuberant Puggle has had bladder stones, a liver shunt and just recently a cruciate ligament tear. Thanks to Healthy Paws, there was no need to fret, as my policy covered 90% of the cost of all surgeries, medications, x-ray's, etc. The claims take about 5 seconds to file online and the processing is super fast. Now, our sweet boy is currently recovering and is happy as ever. Thank you Healthy Paws for your caring and devotion to our fur babies!

Professional, honest, and caring company

My doggo was diagnosed with diabetes. Everything about it was stressful except for getting info from Trupanion. My deductible for her diabetes was almost met in one visit and soon Trupanion will start paying 90% of the expenses for her treatment for the rest of her life. I'm so relieved. When my other dog died, I called them and the receptionist was the sweetest, kindest person ever. Everyone there seems to actually care about their clients. It's not a tooth and nail fight to get what you paid for, unlike my human health insurer!
