Thank you

I signed both my dogs up at 10 weeks and I never wanted a dollar to come between me and my dog. It was my security blanket. My friend always made fun of me saying I had insurance but when I got a bill for $6775 for when my dog tore her ACL and I paid $858. I looked back and I made a great decision a long time ago. The funny thing is all my friends are asking me for referrals cause they have animals now too. I just want to say thank you Trupanion for being so user-friendly and quick responses with quotes so I can make the best decisions I can for my pets.

45% premium increase the first year

I enrolled/purchased Pet Insurance for my dog Emma, about a year ago because of the wonderful reviews I read. It is easy to reach customer service by phone or email. Response time, friendliness, and professionalism is top-notch. Their online claims process is a little wonky but once your claims are accepted they and any payments due are expedited which is appreciated. They did deny a claim saying it was related to a pre-existing condition of allergies; however, it had NOTHING to do with her food allergy - it was something new. But I knew my chances of an appeal would be fruitless. Very frustrating. So for most of my first year with Metlife, I would have given 3-4 stars. HOWEVER........the reason I am VERY disappointed is their cleverness in exploiting an animal parent whose dog developed an illness while covered by them. I had to use the insurance purchased. At the time of the “renewal” sent to me, I used $1,531.44 out of the $5,000 annual limit. So basically, I used 30% of the benefit available to me. YET – THEY ARE RAISING MY PREMIUM by 45% I understand prices for many things have gone up. And I am an older person who knows the insurance game of “you use your insurance and your premium will go up”. I expected an increase but a reasonable one. An increase of 45% is pure exploitation. I say this because my dog developed an illness (hypothyroidism) that will always be a pre-existing condition making it hard for me to switch to another plan. They raised me that much knowing I can't get insurance for my dog elsewhere. Clever. Very clever.

Absolutely the worst insurance

Absolutely the worst insurance. They were originally Pet Plan and privately owned. They sold it to a corporation. Then the underwriting department changed several times. I have been with them since 2002. I put my last dog on with them in 2013. They were ok. After that I switched to Trupanion. My dog had unlimited coverage and $250.00 deductible and under that plan needed a double hip replacement 2 years apart. They dropped my coverage to 70% payout with a $15,000.limit. My dog is now 12 years old. Just got my renewal for this year $2,200. It jumped up to $4,300. You read that right. They take forever to pay claims. Trupanion pays them in days. They will get you with a low rate going in. But then they have you because you can't switch because of pre-existing conditions. Do yourself a favor. Look elsewhere. Like I said do some research on the company before it was Fetch. The original name was Pet Plan. Good luck

This company is a scam.

This company is a money grabbing scheme. The coverage is useless, literally any other company will do a better job. They will do whatever they can to squeeze money out of you. And they do not honou their 30 day refund policy. Even if you were not reimbursed for a claim.

Cancel my policy with nationwide

Cancel my policy with nationwide. I had a sick dog yesterday. Was told underwriters were not thru approving my transfer from Kelly who died 9/23:25 to my new rescue liberty. I was told I would not be covered if I went to the vet yesterday I wouldn’t get coverage until the 16th. I said to the fella that is unacceptable. I was gonna pay for nationwide a year in advance because I love nationwide but after yesterday, I do not love nationwide. I want you to cancel my policy. I have to take the dog back again today cost me $244 yesterday and Dan only knows what it’s gonna cost me today but nationwide is not there for me no exception could be made. I have been with you folks for years. I had Kelly the Russian Blanca for five years and you did good and now all of a sudden you don’t give a shit about my liberty my Rescue that I got in October because of paperwork totally unacceptable. I yelled at the guy I’ve been in Customer Service for 46 years and there is always something that can be done but obviously not with nationwide underwriters rule. The law will underwriters can rule the law from now on cancel my policy. I will not renew. I told the fella that yesterday, but he really didn’t want to hear it so I’m telling you again cancel my policy with nationwide insurance it’s not gonna be active until 116 anyway and I’m in limbo. Well I lost my Kelly nine 2325. I still haven’t recovered from that and nationwide isn’t there for my liberty my new Rescue she’s five months old so this is the final thing I have to say to nationwide shame on you. You have no heart my Libby deserves to be treated better. It’s bad enough that she was taken to Paws Rescue and I got her the day after she showed up there, but she was sick yesterday and I’ve gotta take her back tomorrow and you’re not there for us so nationwide can take a fly and leap. I even asked to talk to the underwriting department yesterday and I was told that that was not possible. Oh really again I was in Customer Service for 46 years and I gotta tell you I did a much better job than you folks do.Ann B Bouchelle Bouchelle

Things You Should Know…

Too long. Takes about 1 month to hear the standard email of “we’re sorry for the delay”. Then another 2 weeks-4 weeks to receive the EOB. I’ve had my plan for around 5 years and this has ALWAYS been the case. No matter the size of the claim, the timing, etc. No one actually looks at the claims either. Whatever you categorize it as, is what the computer will continue with. I accidentally put “Wellness” on a claim when it was clearly “Illness” if you read the claim, and the EOB still shows “Wellness”—still 6 weeks to return the claim mis-categorized. You cannot change it once you submit to fix it. The app is constantly broken. The website constantly asks you to confirm your identity despite using the same device, every time, even if you just logged in 5 min ago. They keep deceased pets on your profile so you get a constant reminder when you log in. If you sign up, do the least plan possible. I did the highest plan as it was a fine price when they were younger. Well, each year as they age, the price goes up exponentially. If you want to decrease it, you can never go back up, ever. It’s a trap almost which is awful as the older they get, the more you’d like the coverage, and even without claims, it’ll increase regardless due to age of your animal.

Be Proactive with Patience

Generally I like Pets Best. However, they take a long time to process claims. Easily 3-4 times as long as my friends company. But I have a better policy with more coverage and a better online experience. The automatic email communication is subpar. Several times the issue with a claim getting processed was a lack of medical records but Pets Best didn't tell me they weren't getting a response from my Vet. I had to call Pets Best to figure out what was going on over a month later. This could have easily been prevented if in the first delay email they just included WHY the claim was delayed. But again over all I am satisfied that Pets Best is the best option for me and my pupper right now.
