We have been using PetsBest insurance…

We have been using PetsBest insurance for our dog for over 5 years. The company’s app is super easy to submit a claim and response is usually given within a week or two. Also they have direct deposit for reimbursement to my bank account. The yearly premium has gone up every year and is considerable. But with the cost of an older dog with a chronic condition it truly is worth the money. Because you have peace of mind your pet can get the care they need without worrying if you can afford the treatment. Definitely recommend purchasing a policy before you need it because once your pet is diagnosed preexisting conditions usually won’t be covered.

My dog can see again!

My dog, Stella had cataract in both eyes. It was so bad she was bumping into walls and falling down the stairs. It was so sad to see her decline so fast, especially when she is still very spry otherwise. We decided to get the cataract surgery for her and she can now see again. Its amazing! Its a very pricey surgery that we would not have been able to afford if it werent for HealthyPaws covering 90%. Thank you Healthy Paws! Because of you my dog can see again and has a whole new lease on life!

Customer representatives are kind and helpful once you are transferred to an agent. Lots of time holding listening to piano music. Be careful about bundle costs! Be sure that everything is itemized. I’m losing out being reimbursed because my dog’s dental bundled the X-rays, drugs, and teeth cleaning. It’s very frustrating.

Great experience & paid back quickly!

Great experience to upload the vet bill onsite & quick review & response to providing the refund with 3 days. Very helpful to make sure you also include vet visit documents for fast & easy transaction. Otherwise there will be holdup on your refund.

Sad that a post code update to a property 5 mins away resulted in a $250 policy increase. Trupanion were unwilling to find a solution other than a policy coverage or deductible change. I ended up getting better coverage through Costco

I have been overall quite happy with…See above. Note- I reviewed the entirety of my experiences with Spot for this review, not just one visit. This includes the reasons why I like Spot.

I have been overall quite happy with Spot Pet insurance for my cat, until my last claim. Whereas my rating would have been at least 4 stars until that time, it is now 3 stars. I am hopeful this will escalate again. My positive comments- Spot claims are easy to submit. Spot has received my invoices and medical records, and then responded within 2 weeks with payment. I had heard that they would repeatedly ask for records they already had on file, but this did not happen (until my last claim.) I am very happy with the Spot coverage not only for vet care, but also for exams, and Rx food. I have Trupanion for all of my other animals, and they do not have these latter two options. In addition, and most importantly, you also offered coverage for my cat starting when he was 14 years old. Whereas, my long term pet carrier Trupanion would not do so, despite me having had numerous past and present pets insured by them. But, you cover senior animals of any age. I am very grateful for this Spot policy, especially since I often have adopted senior animals and expect I will again. Also, regarding your competitor Trupanion, a) I do like the usual 1 to 3 day turn around for reimbursement, and b) the software agreements they have with so many vet practices. This enables me to pay just my 10% of cost, plus the exam fee, when I leave a vet visit. It is not necessary for me to pay the bill in full and then wait for reimbursement. That being said, I can live with a 2 week turnaround from Spot. Because, as I said previously, Spot covers more of the actual full veterinary costs for my animals compared to what Trupanion pays. So, I can wait. So, for all of the above reasons, I had decided that I would go with Spot vs. Trupanion when I bring another cat into my home soon whom I am planning to adopt. She is a much younger cat, so I could go with Trupanion again, as I have done for years. But, overall I have liked Spot's plan better, and decided to go with Spot. HOWEVER, my last claim with Spot was problematic. Here are my negative comments/ feedback. These are offered with the hope that you can use these constructively and enact some changes regarding the issues I encountered with my last claim. This experience has prompted me to rethink whether to go with Spot, or with Trupanion, or perhaps with Pumpkin, for the new cat. Things unfolded with my last claim in a way which matched what people had warned me about concerning Spot, and not just Spot but some other carriers as well. For this claim, I was asked for past invoices for each visit to one of my vets going back in time for a full year. Yet, these very invoices, and those from his other vet as well, had ALL been submitted previously. I had provided these for each of my claims, so these were there in my records with Spot. Nevertheless, I did comply and re-submitted these invoices again. I tried to upload them on my Spot portal site. However, the icon which was sent to me in the email from Spot would only permit me to upload one invoice pdf. I had the additional requested invoices for the past year to resubmit, yet I could not accomplish this. (When we submit an initial claim, we are able to add more than one document. Not sure why this was different.) So, I called Spot. Your representative gave me the email for your Records department. I was told that Records would then pass the invoices on to the claims people. So, I sent these to Records. Then I received another request a week or so later by your claims processor(s) which reminded me that they required that I submit all the invoices for the past year so that they could process the most recent claim I had submitted. I then again called and checked with your Spot representative. I found out that the invoices I had re-sent to your Records email had never been forwarded on to claims review. Or, if these were sent over, they were never attached to my claim. I rely on the reimbursements not just for cost recovery, but also to put in a fund so that I have it available for use for my cat's future vet care. So, my thought was if this is now going to be the new norm for how Spot processes claims after being with them for awhile, then maybe I ought to reconsider another carrier for the new cat. So, that is my feedback. Overall, I am happy with Spot. The majority of experience with Spot is good, and I appreciate your coverage options. However, I do have some new concerns now, which I am hoping you can rectify on your end. If you can, I will keep using your company for my upcoming animals. Thank you for asking for honest feedback.

REHOME FEMALE FROM BREEDER

Only had for 2 months. Submitted a claim that included “ear infection” and “ fecal analysis of hook worm”. She is a 5 year old lab that we adopted from s breeder two months ago. Spot requested past records for shots and vet records for 1 year. I sent a total 5 year history from the breeder of shot records(breeder gave me the list), but there are no records of vet visits of health issues as the breeder did all her own inoculations. Thus no illness preexisting conditions, because no vet visits for illness. Now, what is one to do if Spot will not cover a simple ear infection or hookworm diagnosis, because I Afopted my female dog from a breeder. She is 5 years old. I have vi tact Spot 3 times now providing all the required/available information to no avail, bother claims have been closed and denied. IF YOU HAVE A PREOWNED, RESCUED OR ADULT MOMMA OR STUD DOG THUS I DURSNCE IS NOT FOR YOU. I will be calling to cancel my insurance.
