Great insurance, slow reimbursement
I think Nationwide pet insurance is amazing. It's super easy to submit a claim and I never feel like I am being duped and taken advantage of. I always understand my reimbursement amount. However, I think the amount of time taken to process a claim and receive reimbursement is far too long. The last time I submitted, it took about a month to receive. Luckily, this was a small bill, but in the future it may be larger and have more of an impact on my finances. I would like to see this amount of time shortened. Otherwise, Nationwide is great!

Trupanion is Tops!
We have had a rough year with our little dog, starting with pancreatitis, and recently, possible poisoning by herbicides on a walk in the park. Trupanion has been responsive, supportive, and a definite comfort in stressful times.

You care enough to insure your pets, so do your research and get the best!
A very short time after I signed up with Healthy Paws, both of my dogs needed expensive diagnostic testing, and one needed surgery to correct the development of tracheal paralysis which caused his airway to be too narrow to adequately oxygenate him. Both are senior dogs, a 10 and 12 year old, so the deductible was $750 a year, with a 60% reimbursement rate which I thought was fair because I hadn’t started them at a young age. Both are very healthy but I thought that at their age they might be more prone to accidental injury because they are active and regularly go to the dog park to play with other dogs. I had never imagined I would need to spend over $5000 for a medical issue on the older one, a Standard Labradoodle, and even the 10 year old Spitz has already cleared her deductible. The reimbursements from Healthy Paws were made promptly, professionally, and the staff is very cordial and caring about the welfare of my pets. I am so happy I did my research and didn’t settle on the company that would have been more convenient because my vet would do the paperwork, and another that friends at the Dog Park have. It’s very easy to submit claims via their app. Do your research - there are many independent reviews about this company. I hope you will never have to use it like I did, but if you do they will provide tremendous relief and support to enable you to care for your companion in the best possible way.

It is comforting to have Trupanion
It's comforting to know my dogs medical bills will be covered in the event of a serious health event. I'm not concerned about routine vet bills. My concern is a major medical problem and for me the premiums are a cost effective way to guard against such an event.

We learned our lesson and are pleased that we did
We have had 4 rottweilers in the last 34 years. The second one had a serious problem that took his life at 8 months. We did not have pet insurance for him. I would be embarrassed to say how much we spent trying to bring Cuddy back to health. When we purchased our 3rd Rott, we had learned our lesson. Nationwide saw us through a couple of major issues including toe cancer resulting in amputation of the toe, spleen cancer and a ripped ligament in his rear leg. Each year I waited for the premium to be increased but it never did raise. When it was time to get our fourth Rott, there was no question if we would go with Nationwide. Early on this Rott developed IBD and Nationwide has had Samson's back for 3 years. I am a continuous salesman for Nationwide Pet Insurance.

Underwritings and Fine Print
My experience with this pet insurance company has been a complete nightmare. I signed my dachshund up with ASPCA in August 1st of 2016. My dog Winston was 9 years old at the time and had no preexisting conditions. In the past two years the plan has gone up in price substantially (I started out paying $36.00 a month and I now pay $56.00 a month). Now get this. It is June of this year when my dog got diagnosed with Lymphoma (a quick growing cancer that has a prognosis of two months). For the first time in Winston's life he has an illness that is severe and needs significant treatment. At this point I am overjoyed that I have put so much money into a pet insurance company that has a limit of $3,000 dollars in order to help prolong Winston’s life (being that I am a grad school student graduate I have significant student loan debt and this monthly $56.00 of allotted money that I was putting towards my pet insurance was precious and significant). Because of ASPCA’s policy that refuses to provide reimbursement for continued treatment after the renewal date (as in—because I started my pet insurance on August 1st, they refuse to reimburse me should Winstons’ treatment’s continue beyond this date, although the yearly limit they provide that they will reimburse towards is $3,000) This appears to violate the agreement that I and many others might assume to exist in that they will provide reimbursement for bills accrued due to illness, accidents, etc. Their abrupt cancelations for canceling reimbursement for my dogs treatment appeared callous and cold as well as only covered two chemotherapy treatments out of the minimum of five that were recommended. My vet (Dr. Lauren Silverman, DVM) at Healthy Pet’s Veterinary Hospital in the West Portal District of San Francisco (where Winston was diagnosed with lymphoma), as well as my current Oncologist (Dr. Bryan Marker DVM, DACVIM) have expressed their dismay and disrespect for the insurance companies apparent disregard for their abrupt cessation of reimbursement support for vet bills right before a renewal date. Had Winston been diagnosed with cancer in September, he would have had 11 months of reimbursable treatments that could have prolonged his life (as Winston was responding favorably to the chemotherapy). I am extremely disappointed that the massive fine print in the ASPCA pet insurance allows them to feel compelled to not reimburse me for any treatment taking place after August 3rd when my pet insurance is renewed. The vets that have grown to love Winston have decided to stop recommending ASPCA pet insurance to their patients due to the numerous loop holes which allow them to escape responsibility for reimbursing for vet bills. I have now only been reimbursed $1,038 dollars an entire month after submitting my claim for $1,300. Not only has this pet insurance nickeled and dimed me as much as possible, but they have made it so I am now paying even MORE based on the interest this amount has accrued on my credit card. I too must speak out against this grave injustice that I feel I have experienced at the detriment of my pet’s lifespan. I cry writing this review while knowing my baby has only about a month left and has already started to decline dramatically due to his cancer tumors returning. I only hope that this review can assist someone who loves their pet the way that I do in making a better pet insurance decision.

So glad to have Per Insurance!
I am so glad to have invested in pet insurance. I wasn’t sure if it’s worth it or if they would actually pay for things. I recently had allergy testing done on my boxer who is 1 1/2. It was a really expensive procedure. I was afraid the insurance somehow would get out of paying for it. He had never had it done before and was never diagnosed with allergies but you just never know. I was happy to see they covered it! I only had to pay $300 of a $2400 bill. If you questioning whether to get insurance or not...GET IT!! It’s so important to get it when they’re a puppy because you never know what can happen and pre-existing conditions won’t be covered. I’m so glad I got it and very happy with Pets Best. This is only our first year so we’ll see what year 2 will be like. So happy with this insurance!

Claims and costs
Premiums are getting high and increasing significantly every year. Claims take too long to process.
