Way to expensive if you have a healthy pet

I’ve had Trupanion for several years and initially felt good about the coverage, but the way they price policies has become increasingly frustrating. Their model evaluates your premium based on other pets in your area of the same breed, age, and gender — essentially a “people paying into the same pot” philosophy. While I understand how risk pools work, the reality is that my premiums have risen dramatically even though my own dog’s claims and health history haven’t changed. In just the past few years, my rate has increased 16%, and most recently another 19.5%. The only explanation provided is that costs are rising due to claims from similar dogs in my geographic area. In other words, responsible pet owners can end up subsidizing the misfortune of others nearby, with very little transparency or control. There hasn’t been a clear breakdown showing why these increases are necessary or how they’re calculated beyond general statements about regional trends. I chose this insurer expecting stability and predictability over time, especially given the already higher monthly premium compared to competitors. Instead, the year-over-year increases have made the policy feel less sustainable and harder to justify, particularly when they’re not tied to my pet’s actual usage. Coverage itself may be solid, but prospective customers should go in understanding that premiums can rise significantly based on factors outside your control, including the claims history of other pets in your area. If you’re looking for long-term cost stability or transparency in pricing, it’s worth asking detailed questions and comparing options before committing.

Best in class customer support!

I've been with Fetch Pet Insurance since getting my dog 8+ years ago, and I've had many interactions with the folks there. I can honestly say, every one of the reps I've interacted with has been fantastic. Just spoke with Samantha, and she like the rest of her colleagues are empathetic, helpful, professional and kind. As far as Fetch as a company, they also deserve 5 stars! App/website are very easy to place claims, payout wait time is reasonable and overall experience has been stellar. I highly recommend Fetch!

10/10 do not recommend

10/10 do not recommend Biggest waste of money you can find, nothing but a scam. Every claim made has been denied, but rates still seem to go up.

Pet owner's best friend

Really excellent insurance, which we carry on both dogs. In a perfect world, our dogs would be healthy forever and incur minimal vet bills, but the reality is, illness and injury happens, and bills can be exorbitant. Well worth the monthly charge. The website is easy to navigate, and customer service is quick and responsive.

I like how quickly my claim was paid

I like how quickly my claim was paid. I do not the cost of the insurance. It has doubled in cost in the last 6 months and is nearly at a point where it is better to just save the money and forgo the insurance.

Totally unacceptable for the price

My Embrace database has not worked in months. I have called several times a week and they said they notified IP. We sent detailed screen shots saying the issue is definitely on their end. No response to date. Trying to track things on 3 feet long legal pads. This is terrible. I had to drop my older lab off policy as they wanted $750 for just her coverage. I had Embrace for 20 yrs - it is a fraud now.

Just the price, for both my boys. though I was offer on the previous attempt to purchase this insurance was 10% on top of the military discount. I was also offer 2500 annual limit at 250 deductible for both my dogs which total was 5000 dollars annual limit. when I rebooted the screen it gives me this amounty

Do Not Dump Senior Dogs

Unreasonable premium hikes and reduction of coverage for senior dogs. We have been with this insurance company since 2016 when our dog entered our home as a puppy. We put up with unreasonable premium hikes for our big girl because we wanted the best healthcare for her, and she has had minimal health problems. However, now that she is over 10 years old, Healthy Paws is constructively dumping her by increasing her deductible and at the same time reducing her coverage. This is really unfair. An insurance company should not be able to take our money for 10 years and then raise deductibles and reduce coverage when the risk of health problems increases solely because of her age.
