I have a healthy but very active golden doodle. I like the comfort of knowing I can get the care he needs without worrying about limitations due to the cost of veterinary care.

Trupanion does not cover routine…

Trupanion does not cover routine veterinary care like annual physicals or vaccines, which is surprising given that many other pet insurance providers (such as Nationwide) include at least some preventive coverage. The monthly cost is significantly higher than other pet insurance plans I’ve had, making it especially disappointing that routine care isn’t covered at all. I can see how this policy might make sense for someone primarily concerned about major medical events, but for everyday pet care, the value just isn’t there. I insure a Bernese Mountain Dog and a cat and currently pay just over $300 per month—about $3,600 per year. I was recently notified that Trupanion has submitted a rate increase request in my state, and if approved, my premium could increase by 41%. That would push my monthly cost to over $400 for coverage that excludes most routine needs. At that point, the cost simply doesn’t justify the benefits, and I’ll likely have to cancel the policy. Overall, the value does not align with the price.

Bait and switch

I carried their insurance for years. I never made any claims. Then they notified me that the premiums would MORE THAN DOUBLE the next month, from $177 t0 $429. Insane. Exploitative. No reason given, just because. And if you're on autopay, which I was, you might not even realize. Their coverage is mediocre to begin with but it was better than nothing -- or so I thought UNTIL I GOT NOTHING. Thanks for nothing, Healthy Paws.

Quick, Easy Claim Process

My dog was previously with 24 Pet Watch for 8 years and recently switched over to Hartville. Our experience so far has been great. Yes, my premium increased quite a bit as I've seen others comment on in their reviews, but my dog has some chronic health issues, so the annual policy limit is still very much worth the premium increase since her health issues are pretty unpredictable. Submitting a claim is super easy, and my experience has been that processing time has been right around a week, and the direct deposit for reimbursement is very smooth. I'm very thankful for that!

Embrace pet insurance was fine until…

Embrace pet insurance was fine until the last two years. We only made 2 claims for our yellow lab who is 12 years old. ($450, $1001). We expected that his insurance would increase but the amount is incredible. $550 a month. Now, it might be that I contacted the BBB last year when it increased from approximately $225 to $400. -I was able to reduce it to $342 but gave up the percentage of reimbursement and the lifetime amount.- This year it increased to $550 a month. My dog is dying from splenic tumor and a mass tumor that is slowly bleeding his life away. To operate would be $7000-$8000 and no guarantee he would survive. It was a hard choice but we chose palliative care and to keep him as comfortable as possible. However, an increase to $550 a month would cost us $6,600 yearly. The hypocrisy of this insurance Co and probably others, is definitely a form of usury. I will be contact the CFPB- even though it is a shadow of its former self

Excellent pet insurance

I love that I get to choose what I want my monthly payment to be and my deductible and my max per year. Spot has always paid for my pups medical bills and it has been a lifesaver.
