Claim Process is Long and Challenging

I rescued our dog back in February and purchased major medical pet insurance at the recommendation of friends. Very thankful we did, as our rescue has had quite a few challenges. I have 8 claims in, totaling approx $5k, going back to March. Only 3 of the claims have been "closed", with the largest of them being mostly denied due to how they categorized it (in direct contradiction of the vet). To even get these 3 reviewed, I have had to call 7-10 times and many of those times was told I needed to provide additional information - all sent to different email addresses - none of which was asked of me until I called to ask on the status. I did receive those same requests via mail 7-10 days after I called. And, of course, these all delay the review process. That said, the representatives are very friendly, the process is continuing to move forward and, at the end of the day it's an insurance company so the "hoops" are sadly not a surprise. Depending on the outcome of the remaining claims, will determine if I will keep Nationwide as our Pet Insurance provider and/or recommend to others.

Great customer service rep!

The Nationwide representative who took my call was great!!! She was very positive, friendly, and very informative. I'm always nervous when calling customer service for any insurance company but she made my experience very pleasant. I enjoyed our call and she was very helpful in answering all my questions. She was also a very great listener. I usually don't complete reviews but i wanted to make sure that she was recognized for her great service.

Great customer service

From getting the insurance quote to processing a claim if needed was very simple. Best insurance when compared to others. Bob in customer service very helpful with a question. Anyone you speak too truly appears to care about your fur family member.

Always dependable and customer service has always been excellent!

Our Tootsie is turning 15 tomorrow and still acts like a puppy! We have had VPI since she was a puppy and they have always been on top of things. Their staff is very knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with.

Worth it

I am very thankful for having pet insurance ! It really help with the cost of my dogs vet bills . The only improvement I would like to see is better communication. Claims should only take 30 days to process and mine took longer than that . I think just a friendly email saying that sorry for the delay but we are still processing your claim we will keep you updated every two weeks or so ? Once I did contact nation wide to check on what was going on with my claims I got a very fast response and then within days my claims were processed ! That was very nice

Submitting Claim improvement opportunity

This is the first time we have used pet insurance and we are so excited it is offered through my place of employment! So after the most recent (and first) claim I submitted - I realized that it would be very helpful if claims could be submitted via my smartphone as we can our own dependent care and health care claims (via another company) rather than printing off a claim form and sending via mail. The overall process was a bit labor intensive. Also- there seems to be a glitch in the website where it asked several times extra information about our pets - but would never save the info I submitted (I tried several times over a few day). I ended up telling someone I talked to via customer service, who was very helpful....she ended up entering this info for me.

What is taking so long to contact the vet to get my reimbursement from u

Every one seems really friendly but it’s been several weeks since I sent in a claim n it’s still listed as processing When I called the lady said they only needed to call the vet s office. It’s taken a long time
