Double check your coverage amounts when signing up.

With our last dog the coverage and service was amazing. With our new dog, I started with a higher deductible by mistake. I called to make changes and you can NEVER make a change unless it’s to up your coverage. So basically nothing is covered for this dog which is a bummer. When I was talking to the rep she mentioned I could switch insurance companies but everything she’s been treated for so far would be considered “pre-existing” and not covered somewhere else.

Reassurance of coverage for catastrophic medical event

As a longtime pet parent of cats and dogs, I understand the commitment to their health and wellbeing for their lifetime. But when an unexpected catastrophic medical condition or injury occurs, I feel rest assured that Trupanion met my expectations. This was my first time filing a pet insurance claim. My 2 year old kitten needed surgery to figure out why she was continuously vomiting. X-ray showed something suspicious, but we couldn’t figure out what it was. Thank you, Trupanion.

agent was helpful and answered all questions. We didn't have our puppy yet when I firts called to set up his insurance - she called us back on the next Monday to verify we received him in transport on Saturday. Above and beyond customer service!

Hooray for MetLife

Our dachshund has many, many health issues. If not for MetLife, we could not possibly give her the care she needs. I had never had pet health insurance before, but she came with it from the rescue, and thankfully, we continued it. It has saved her life (and ours) many times. I highly recommend MetLife.

Opaque website. Feels like a rip-off.

The website is very opaque. Claims are difficult to follow. No easy reference from the claim- making it difficult with multiple claims. "Claim closed" does not indicate if paid. No direct reasoning for denial. It takes a couple of windows to get to that point and at that is useless. Email communication is misleading. Always "we're on it!" but no follow up if denied. Insured should not have to go through this much hassle just to see if a claim is covered and should not have to be the intermediary between the vet and ins. co. Need to call to get answers. Even at that, ofter useful information is left out.
