Trupanion Wiggles Out of Paying a Small Claim

Trupanion groups conditions to get away with writing off any associated issue as pre-existing. This would not be a problem if I had been denied a pre-approval with a condition that was pre-existing and know to be chronic or reoccur but when the condition is documented to have no known cause that does not feel like something that should be considered pre-existing. My advice if you are willing to pay Trupanion prices, find a pet insurance that is at least more flexible with their coverage.

Pet's Best is OK

I have been marginally happy with Pet's Best over the last 4 years. I did have an issue where they covered a surgery that didn't accomplish anything, but wouldn't cover a treatment (because it was an 'alternative therapy'). However, that treatment has been more effective and resolved our issue. I'm also highly frustrated at the $351 price hike due to my pug turning 5. The reason was the breed and age. The dog has not even reached it's deductible for 2 years. The customer service is not understanding and gives very scripted and generic responses to you being upset. Same when I tried to get our previously mentioned treatment covered, even with pages of appeal information from our specialty vet... they wouldn't even entertain the idea. Just a generic 'nope, it's not on our list of medications'. Knowing people who have been through catastrophic events with their pets, I have chosen to stay with Pet's Best 'just in case'. Unfortunately, even with the price hike, they still offer the best coverage (I shopped around). Having said all of this, I guess it's the way the world is now a days. No one cares about helping you, they're just out to make money.

First claim and they denied it

First claim and they denied it. They mentioned some pre-policy examination that was required but they sure took my money. I followed all of the initial steps they provided and no where was there a "pre-policy examination" mentioned. Our dog is mostly healthy but I got the insurance because she's getting older now and I wanted to be sure we could get her care if something happened. Really disappointed in this insurance, it was horrible.

Excellent service and super easy to work with!

I recently set up Spot pet insurance for my two dogs, and the entire process was incredibly smooth and straightforward. The website was user-friendly, the options were clearly explained, and I was able to get both policies active in just a few minutes. No hassle, no confusion—just quick and easy setup. What really impressed me though was their claim processing. I submitted a claim recently, and it was handled quickly and efficiently. The reimbursement came through faster than I expected, with clear communication throughout the process. It took a huge weight off my shoulders knowing that Spot has my dogs' backs when they need vet care. I highly recommend Spot Pet Insurance to any pet parent looking for reliable coverage without the headaches. Their team clearly understands how important our furry family members are. Five stars all the way! — Chris Lewis, San Diego, CA

Very pleased with Spot

I have only used the claims process twice so far since signing up, but I have been really pleased with it. It's very easy to submit, and it takes just a few days from start until reimbursement is received. I looked at a lot of pet insurance companies before choosing Spot, and I am really happy with my choice.

The app is great

The app is easy to use to submit claims. Direct deposit reimbursement takes longer than I think it should. I’m not happy that the appointment charge is not covered if seeing a tech vs an actual vet.

Pets Best always comes through

Pets Best always comes through! This is my second year with coverage for my dog. The wellness coverage is just what we need, covers the basics for his meds, blood work, tests and office visit. (Thankfully we haven't needed the emergency coverage.) The claim process is easy on the app and on their web site. This time, the reimbursement for heartworm meds was approved in one day! Interface for reimbursement directly to my Care Credit account is seamless. Their rates are competitive, and I like that I can pay quarterly and set it up through Care Credit. I'd highly recommend Pets Best. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

My puppy got an eye injury at the groomers, and I had to take him to a 24 hour emergency vet. The bill for his injury was $580 and Trupanion informed me that they would only pay $2 of this amount, which was a shock to me! They deducted $250 that I would need to pay per incident, and they also deducted the examination fee. Considering that I am paying $110 per month for this insurance, I was pretty shocked! I am reconsidering my pet insurance provider. If they are not there for me in an emergency, what is the point?
