Fine until they increased my bill by over $100/month

I've had Embrace for several years with two dogs and up until now I recommended it to other people. I find it easy to submit claims online and they approve/pay pretty quickly. It was fine until this year when they increased my bill by over $100/month. I expected a small increase like every year but this is astonishing.

Poor service from adjusters

Adjusters never return your calls or messages. You can call a million times and you will never get a response from them. Customer service will try and help as much as possible but the adjusters need customer service training.

You will pay more with Embrace for far less coverage!

I am a veterinarian, so I have experience with most of the pet insurance companies out there. I got insurance on my own dogs when they were young, & thankfully have not had to use it much. My dogs (like most dogs) have had episodes of vomiting &/or diarrhea, & because of that have had diagnostic work-ups to ensure it wasn't something more serious. Therefore, claims were submitted for “vomiting” or “diarrhea.” Now that they are middle aged, & I am not a poor vet student, I wanted a pet insurance with unlimited coverage, versus the annual cap of $15,000 I had per year when I originally signed up for my plan. At this time, Embrace did not even offer “unlimited” coverage, or I would have chosen it. Not to mention - my insurance with Embrace had gone up SUBSTANTIALLY over the past year (not once, but twice)…& is more than double what some of the other, better insurance plans out there cost. When I signed up for Embrace, they DID NOT have or offer an unlimited plan. However, they now DO offer an unlimited plan. I tried to switch from the annual capped plan, to the unlimited plan, & the difference would only be $10 more a month. But when I went to do that, I was not able to without canceling my current plan, & starting a new one. Which would require a two week waiting period - which is understandable, & I was okay with. But what I was NOT okay with was that ANY of the previously submitted claims, for vomiting or diarrhea, would be counted as “pre-existing” problems, & would NOT be covered. I assured the manager that I spoke with that vomiting & diarrhea are symptoms of almost every ailment out there - & was told that ailments with symptoms of, or presentations for vomiting & diarrhea in the future, would now be “pre-existing” & not covered under the new plan. Vomiting is a sign of almost everything - any disease where a pet vomits - likely won’t be covered… So for $10 less a month, I have an annual cap of $15,000. If you’re reading this & looking for pet insurance, I suggest you go with a company that offers unlimited coverage at a reasonable price, as >$15,000 is now a very realistic cost if your pet needs intensive care or surgery. Currently, I feel stuck with an overpriced company with a terrible annual cap. I have signed up with another company, with a better reputation for $200 less a month for unlimited coverage - once I see what they will cover & count as pre-existing, I will be canceling Embrace. Do yourself a favor, & don’t sign up with them in the first place.
