Coverage Cut Because of Age
I enrolled my Boston Terrier with Healthy Paws in 2019 and was a loyal customer for 7 years, paying premiums faithfully with a 90% reimbursement rate and $250 deductible; the coverage I was sold on at enrollment. At my dogs 2026 renewal, Healthy Paws informed me that my coverage was being unilaterally downgraded to 70% reimbursement and a $500 deductible. No negotiation, no exceptions, no alternatives. On a significant claim, that difference exceeds $1,000 out of pocket. When I disputed this, their customer service responded in writing with two reasons: my dogs age (7) and the ‘long-term sustainability of their program.’ Not my claims history. Not my payment record. His age and their bottom line. This is coercion by design. They advertise lifetime coverage and no caps on claims but what they don’t tell you at enrollment is that your reimbursement rate and deductible will be systematically reduced as your pet ages (in my dogs case 7yrs), precisely when pre-existing conditions develop and switching insurers becomes impossible. That is deceptive advertising. By the time your pet needs care, you have nowhere to go and no leverage. You are not a customer, you are trapped. The point of pet insurance is to have coverage when your pet needs it most, which is when they get older. Healthy Paws reduces your coverage exactly at that point, and they will tell you so in writing. Do not enroll your pet with them. I have filed complaints with the Texas Department of Insurance and the Better Business Bureau, and I encourage other affected pet owners to do the same.

Policy seems great
Policy seems great. The process for enrollment was pain free and I got documents nearly immediately. The only problem is my document can't be opened bc it's been corrupted. I've contacted then, but it's a Saturday, so we've got a while to go. But the price is really great for my poor little unwashed masses self.

Extremely Slow Claims Processing
I've had Pumpkin for just shy of a year. My rescue dog is ~2 years old. Prior to filing a single claim, I received advanced notice that Pumpkin intends to raise my rate by over $20/mo. for the upcoming year (for the same exact care). My dog subsequently had an accident that required vet care and a follow-up procedure. I submitted a detailed invoice and veterinary records. It took Pumpkin nearly a month to review and approve my claim, during which time I had to follow-up multiple times, as my claim kept getting lost/stuck in their system. I then sent Pumpkin the itemized receipt for the follow-up procedure they already reviewed and approved (which came in under the approved estimate). At the time of this writing, a week has passed without my claim being reviewed or processed. When I followed up just now, I was told that processing times could take up to three weeks--for a an estimate that was already reviewed and approved. I'm glad to see that so many other pet parents on Trust Pilot appear to have had great experiences with Pumpkin, but I have huge buyer's remorse and wish I'd gone with virtually any of their competitors.
