My lab's surgery was not expected. I will suggest Truparian for all new puppies. It is the insurance my vet recommends though she doesn't submit the bill directly.

We have had Figo for 2 years for our now 8 year old dog. We unfortunately needed to use Figo this past week as our dog was really sick and went to the vet and the hospital. After lots of (expensive) diagnostic work, she is on steroids and feeling much better. It was a great piece of mind being able to say yes to the work the doctors wanted to do because I knew I had Figo. Figo reimbursed us faster than the treatment plan! We are very thankful for both the quick response and not having to worry about the cost when we were so worried about our dog.

Understand your policy
I had a very good experience with Trupanion but you must understand your policy. Each condition your pet has has its own deductible, they don’t add up together. Office exam charges are not covered. My dog had cancer and Trupanion faithfully paid 90% of all treatment costs. They paid out quite a bit with no objection. They are a good company but you must understand your policy regarding what is and isn’t covered. Keep in mind that the deductible for a particular diagnosis is only charged once and not each year which is very fair.

Understand how your policy works and you’ll be fine
Overall Trupanion has been very good. As long as you understand your policy you should not have a problem. They are a little picky about their diagnoses. My dog had eye issues as a result of her cancer but Trupanion treated that as a different condition subject to a new deductible. They did cover her cancer care well in general. Overall I’d recommend them.
