Pet Owner's Nightmare

I became a Pet's Best policy holder in November of 2011. At the time my 1 year and 3 month old American Bulldog had a torn ligament in his knee. The Vet told us that surgery would be the best for my dog because he was concerned about the knee becoming a problem for my dog in his later years. The surgery was done at the same time in November that our policy took effect. The insurance did not cover this surgery and we where fully aware of that. At Christmas (over a full month and a half later) our bulldog started limping on his front left paw, so we took him in on 12/26/2011. The vet did not seem very concerned and treated the dog for an infection. His next check up was in a week on 1/2/2012. We came in for the check up and were floored when the vet told us that they thought J-Beau had cancer. We asked the vet for his opinion on our best options. He told us that there is a cancer specialist in Knoxville, Tenn. that could diagnose and maybe give us a selection of treatment options. So we drove from Peachtree City, Georgia (25 miles south of Atlanta) to Knoxville, Tennessee that very day. The Vet in Knoxville made the diagnoses of bone sarcoma after doing a biopsy. The vet also said that this seemed to be a very aggressive tumor in J-Beau's shoulder. The specialist also told us that amputation was J-Beau's best option for survival. We scheduled the earliest appointment possible for J-Beau's amputation. A few weeks later J-Beau started chemotherapy. Now in the mid

amazing. simply amazing service/coverage

Marketing information and websites are nice but ultimately I can only rate a company once there is meaningful interaction and with insurance that usually means a claim. My cocker spaniel had been insured for about a year. She had pre-existing cataracts so those were not covered. I decided to pay for the surgery to remove one from her right eye. It went well but several months later glaucoma developed as happens occasionally after cataract surgery. The glaucoma escalated so quickly that her optic nerve became damaged and her vision once again was very poor in that eye. So I decided to have the left eye catract removed and also do a preventative surgery to avoid any possibility of glaucoma in that eye in the future. I wanted her to have at least good sight in one eye. Because glaucoma is painful - I also had another surgery in the right eye to alleviate the glaucoma. The amount of money spent was astronomical -- $6000 not including medicines (on top of the previous cataract surgery a few months earlier). I made a claim requesting reimbursement for the expenses related to the glaucoma. I submitted very complex bills because of the multiple surgeries done simultaneously and asked that for a pro-rated share of the surgical and hospital costs for the glaucoma. I wasn't sure it would be covered at all since it was possibly the result of the cataract surgery (which was not covered). Well, it was covered! And my reimbursement was EXTREMELY generous in how they al

Pets Best Is A God-send to my 16year old cat!

I've had Pets Best Pet Insurance for a long time. They are underwritten by Aetna Insurance Company and I just can't say enough nice things about this company. I have a 16 year old Domestic Short Hair Tabby Cat who has undiagnosed seizures, liver disease, kidney disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (that's a lot for one little cat). Pets Best is the ONLY pet insurance company that will cover this geriatric cat or the only company that would cover her without price-gauging me. The claims process is easy, 1, 2, and 3. I can scan the claims form right to the company on their website from home and they begin processing it right away. They deposit my refund right into my bank account quickly, usually within a week and communicate with me promptly via e-mail. I would recommend Pets Best Insurance to anyone who has a pet. This company even has a way that the policy holder can have the payment sent directly to the Vet (with the Vet's permission). What a great option for people who are on a tight budget. Additionally, because it's Aetna it works just like "people" insurance straight 80/20 after a reasonable deductible. Again, just a God Send.

Exclusions

After pursuing our breeders recommendation of continuing our puppy insurance, we upgraded our insurance to the preventative plan. We sent in our first claim, only to have it partially denied, due to a pre existing health concern. However, our coverage never lapsed and was in force since birth...go figure. There was no specific intervention other than de-worming which seemed to fix the problem of lethargy. A letter then arrived stating that gastrointestinal problems and associated concerns would now be excluded. This confirms what we had been told about this insurance plan, as soon as you have difficulty it will be excluded....we cancelled our insurance. Don't waste your time. Pick a different company.

Amazing company

I recently insured my 1.5 year old pit bull cross with Healthy Paws. 18 days after we purchased insurance our dog completely ruptured her cruciate ligament. There is a 15 day waiting period for coverage. I was SURE they would figure out a way not to cover the $4500 surgery. However, I faxed them all the records and within 10 days I received a reimbursement check for my dog's medical care. There was no hassle, no questions and great customer service. I highly recommend Healthy Paws.
