I would not recommend

I would not recommend. Claims were denied on my senior dog when he started having liver issues because when he was a puppy he had a high liver enzyme reading after surgery. They claimed pre-existing condition. My other two dogs were still insured with them when they started not paying claims because I started using Pet Desk points and paid ahead on my account. When I used my credit balance they claimed I was getting discounted services. The line items on the invoice were not discounted, I was just trying to use my credit balance. That was when I did the math to see if I was really saving anything over a three year period. I was shocked to see that I was paying hundreds of dollars more by having the insurance. I no longer have the insurance and just set aside the money each month into a fund and I'm saving a lot of money. Update after response: An abnormal liver enzyme during recovery after a surgery is not a precondition of anything except normal metabolism of healing. Especially when there is many many years that it is normal again before a true illness occurs. My rating stands and I would give lower if I could.

Can't beat this service

It's not often I write about first class service, but in this case, I thought it was important to share my experience as this company is awesome on several fronts, policies offered, customer relations and more. I have been a customer for years but never filed a significant claim as I have been fortunate until recently when my German Sheperd required surgery to remove a mass from her side, then came the bill, then came Nationwide, in both cases it was a home run, great surgeon and great coverage. Wait, it gets better, once my claim was submitted via website, I got a response within 48 hours that it was received and were processing the claim then three days later the reimbursement was ready and would be electronically sent within 24-48 hours, that's a wow, extremely impressed. I would also like share the outstanding service I got at the customer care center in Orlando, Emily, she was great, she walked me thru the process to set up the electronic payment account, trust me, it wasn't easy as I'm not a computer buff but with her extreme patience and expertise we got thru it, she was great. So bottom line is, I'm a happy camper, it's a hard find today to find such high-end service, they really are on our side. Thanks to all, it's helping me deal with a bad situation, really appreciate it.

Too bad this isn't the norm. We've had policies on two of our dogs, very healthy, no issues and they are in mid-life. One of our polices was dropped, on the youngest, with the reason they wanted to boot us out of a policy we purchased four years ago, and force us into a more expensive "newer" policy. Bait & switch.

Profit over People.. Don't fall for it- RUN

Do not believe any reviews you see on here, they are probably from trupanion themselves, or from prior years. They had losses during covid and are trying to make up for them by current customers, and know once you have a pre existing condition you can't leave. Also, if you bring on a pet, any older than a puppy, you'll be screwed. They swear they don't increase their rates based on age, but they do increase their rates based on the age they take them on. My one pet I brought on at 6 mos - same breed, other at just turned 2. After first year, they increased my 2 year old 33%, and my other 10% - said it had to do with area and vet pricing, but they live in same house and renewals were a month apart lol. Took months for them to finally tell me they were charging me more b/c my one, although never had a claim and was brought on with a clean bill of health, was being billed as a 2 year old, to defend the 100 - 133 a month pricing for a mixed frenchton. Following year, no claims for my one, claims for my other as usual, they both increase 15%. My vet bills, and i go to one of the highest in the city, do not represent any of the increases they are charging me. 2 dogs - 3 and 4, is now 292 a month... So what they are forcing you to do is increase your deductible, but your deductible is by condition - so my one dog, who has issues, has to go re meet every single condition by $250 just so her plan is affordable. But they will sell it to you like, the other plans make you pay every year... I'd much rather pay one deductible that is expected, than 10 $250 just to afford my plan. My dog has met every condition by a TON - and yet, it starts from your current deductible and you have to meet the difference to your new $250 higher deductible lol. THEN i go and look at their quarterly financials because i'm a financial controller and oversee rev audit dep for over 150 hotels and literally cringed.... I called and said, i just wanted backup for the data my rate increases were populated from since they weren't from age or anything else... if they were able to calculate the math, seems like something they should be able to provide pretty easy coming from a controller... i was told it was only for proprietaries and neither I nor they were privileged to that information... Soo basically they can just increase your rate by 45% in 2 years, call it inflation, with no backup, knowing you have pre existing, and make you pay for prior year company mistakes.. RUNNNNNNNNNNNNN. - If you doubt me, go look at their rent quarterly financials - just remember, you have to multiply them by 1k. Profit over people... I plan to copy, paste and warn as many people as long as i'm robbed with this plan and look into lawyers as fast as I can.

If I could give them a zero I would

If I could give them a zero I would. I have the policy for just two months. I am absolutely furious. My dog had a medical emergency the day before Christmas, and I submitted my claims along with her vet records, expecting a timely response. Instead, I waited. And waited. I called three times, only to be told each time that my claim was "processing." Then, Pumpkin Insurance canceled my policy. I refuse to continue paying for additional months of coverage when their claims process has been so blatantly negligent. After further investigation, I found that they did send an email regarding the claim—but no one ever made an attempt to call me, and their emails were filtered into my Spam folder. And yet, despite this, they denied my claims, falsely stating that they never received my dog's vet records. That is a lie—they most certainly did. To make matters worse, they had the audacity to send an email with the subject line: "Your Pumpkin claim was recently completed. How did we do?" Are they serious? I will be pursuing legal action and reimbursement.
