PHOENOMENAL!

My dog had his surgery on Tuesday, I emailed the claim form in to Trupanion on Wednesday morning. I had the approval by Wednesday afternoon and the cheque arrived in the mail on Friday. I could not have been more impressed.

Don't waste your money.

I have a 6 year old cat that had rarely vomited for hairballs. I had mentioned it at a doctor visit before I got this policy but wasn't concerned as it was rare and she never stopped eating. Shortly after getting this policy, she had an incident where she was vomiting a lot and I was concerned for her health. I filed a claim for the doctor visit and was denied by Trupanion because they felt it was a pre-existing condition. Even after an appeal and a letter from the vet stating that it was unrelated, the claim was denied. I let the matter drop and she was fine for over a year. She then started having a vomiting episode and this time stopped eating altogether. Again, the claim was denied...even after over a year of no problems. I have summarily cancelled this policy and will never recommend this company to anyone. It certainly did not help me in any way and I felt that it was a huge waste of time and money. You are better off putting aside $30 to $50 a month and using that to pay the vet directly.

Excellent

They have been great about coverage and accepted my dog who was around 7 at the time. This time was an emergency vet visit when she hurt her paw. The only problem was I had a lump removed during my trial period which turned out to be a mast cell tumor so no cancer items are covered. Learn from my mistake and get the insurance before you need it! They more than made up for it by covering my dogs acl surgery! Great company!!!

Life saver

I've had very good experiences with Healthy Paws. I've had two 'catastrophic' events with my pet, and Healthy Paws helped make both situations much less stressful. They were very responsive, and the front end stuff (paperwork, etc.) was minimal. One caveat: My pet came to me from the shelter with different insurance. I'm not sure I would have changed away from that insurance if I knew that the viral respiratory condition he was diagnosed with while under the initial insurance would then be considered a preexisting condition by Healthy Paws. My pet gets a lot of colds that are not covered because it turns out the preexisting viral infection makes him more prone to them (I did not know this at the time I switched insurance companies). But aside from this one difficulty, I've had a flawless experience with Healthy Paws. Especially with my latest claim, that involved very expensive emergency surgery - for which I was absolutely not financially prepared. In a nutshell: Friendly. Easy. Quick.

Relief sought, relief fullfilled

When taking out a pet insurance policy on a nine and half year old dog, one might have certain skepticism as to how an underwriter might perform. We chose Embrace on the recommendation of a pet owning friend working in the insurance industry. Within three months Austin was diagnosed diabetic and a short time after had to have a cancerous tumour removed. On going treatment for both continues. Embrace has been true to its word / contract and timely in processing and paying on claims.Yes, we would certainly recommend this carrier. Giuseppe and Keith

Giant Raise in Rates - No Notification

I've had this insurance for a few years and they've always been good about paying out claims except one time where I had to hound them for a month and half. They are always very friendly on the phone. But today I noticed they took out an extra $20 on my account and when I called them up they raised the rate on one of my pets and I did not receive any notice. Apparently I 'rolled in' to a new policy which includes 10 new experimental medical treatments. I had no choice on whether I wanted to roll in to this or not, I didn't even know it was occurring. The rate that went up was only on 1 pet, the rate increase for my second dog will surely be coming up and I expect that to be double what this jump was because they said it's based on the age of the pet at enrollment. I really had good things to say about this company, but they lost all of that goodwill today. No choices, no notifications, just almost a doubling of a rate.

Fast response to claim

The response by Trupanion to my claim was was very quick as was the reimbursement. I could not have asked for better service. The reason for the 9 rather than the 10 is the $100 deductible for each problem during a calendar year. However, the deductible is explained up front, so it is no surprise.
