They Asked for it.
First let me state we are keeping Embrace, but they asked for the review so here it is. Our dog has a chronic gastric condition typical of the breed. Our Vet decided that it was medically necessary to have his stomach tacked (gastoplexey) to prevent torsion from bloat, usually a fatal condition. We submitted a pre-certification to Embrace which was approved, had the surgery and submitted the claim---WHICH WAS DENIED! How do you deny a pre-authorized claim???? After the requisite indignation on our part, to their credit they honored their pre-approval and paid the claim. Embrace never did inform us what the issue was---did the pre-auth person screw up or did the claims agent? The way their note to us saying the'll honor the claim was written seemed to indicate that it should not have been approved to begin with since it was "preventative" even though the Vet said it was medically necessary to potentially prevent his death from bloat. So in the end it worked out but the stress we were put through, for the albeit only for a day, worrying about the vet bill was upsetting. I will give them high kudos for honoring their pre-certification, but they should have seen it internally and we should never have been the wiser--the actual submitted claim should just have been paid. Otherwise, we really like the comfort of having pet insurance on our dearly loved pet. P.S.: They do take a long time to process claims, and some glitch in their email notification system did't notify us of the claim status. I logged in wondering what was taking to long and found the 16+ days old denial--so this added to the stress because appeals have to be filed within 14 days. Epic fail administratively.

Glad I have it for my dog.
Glad we got this insurance for our dog. We upgraded the policy we got but we have gotten our money worth do far. We got a puppy when we purchased the insurance and our puppy has had numerous visits to the vet for spaying, shots, Urinary tract infections, skin infections and the insurance has paid for a lot of our pups care which has been close to $2000.00 in the last 11 months. The insurance has been well worth the investment for us.

Peace of mind
After our family lost our 8 year old Golden retriever to cancer, We purchased VPI. When we brought Melody home as a puppy. My husband was very skeptical until at three Melody went up for a frisbee and came down in a hole with a torn Acl. VPI payed for exactly what the policy said they would pay for, the process was easy and the checks were paid fairly quickly. We added our puppy Harmony also a Golden to the policy . With high energy dogs like Goldens, VPI allows us to feel like we can handle emergencies if they occur.

scam - VPI exists for the $, not the pets
I've been a paying customer of a Premium Plan for SIX YEARS at $50 a month. My dog has been relatively healthy for that whole period. Last month, my dog got cancer, to the tune of $2000. A deadly cancer called hemangiosarcoma. She needed bloodwork, cytology report, meds, and ultimately surgery to remove the rapidly growing tumor. When I submitted the expenses, they covered only $560 of my entire bill!!! They told me that my "Premium Plan" was old and had not been updated since 2008 for any adjustments and therefore only this small amount was cover and that they surgery itself was NOT covered. I was outraged! After speaking with the first customer agent, I asked to talk with her supervisor. After getting the run around from the second, I said I wanted to talk to underwriting and they said they do not allow customers to talk to the underwriting department. Then I said I wanted the president's information, so they forwarded me to the "customer advocate" for the president. After 3 very heated calls, she phoned me back the next day and told me that underwriting was correct and that they would not pay any more on my claim. I am canceling my policy.

Very satisfied
We have carried basic insurance for our dog since she was a puppy. I have been pleased by the speed and ease of the claims process and have found it well worth the cost. I also appreciate the peace of mind. Well worth it.

Making Decisions Based on Prognosis
The great thing about having pet insurance is you can base treatment decisions on condition, rather than cost. Every year that we have had insurance we have "broken even", and held onto it for "one day". Lilo has had claims over the years, small and medium, and they usually add up to approx the same amount as premiums each year. Until this year. Lilo just came home from PAWS in Moscow after having an exploratory spleen/mass removal. This was after weeks of diagnostics, some at WSU (cha-ching). Half an hour after bringing her home, my husband had submitted her claim using his phone's camera. Our reimbursements always come within a couple of days; we live in WA state so they only take a day to get here in the mail. Lilo's prognosis is excellent, and her insurance has already "paid" for itself x3 this winter. I tell all of my friends about Healthy Paws.

Great!
Scooter has been covered since s puppy. The first year he had a bad sprain or hairline fracture. He went to three different vets including a specialist. I was very pleased with the promptness of reimbursement. He has cut his paw, ripped toe nails out and most recently had been treated for cystitis three times even with an ultrasound. I know the first year I got more back from them than what I paid for premium. This year has been the same. I am glad I have it and won't go without it. You won't regret ever purchasing this coverage.
