Very disappointed ,i was denied all 4 claims i made ,and i will not be using your services again

I would definitely recommend this company for insurance for a pet. I found the service outstanding and they put my mind at ease. The whole claim was handled through email. When I ran into difficulty the rep went out of her way to help me.
Customer service - You wait for hours and hours on the phone, just to get a very bad cusomer support
They are doing their best not to pay for your pet treatment when you need them. after paying them over a 100$ a month, for two cats, they claimed that my pet has a pre-existing condition. No matter that I appealed, with a letter from my vet (!) saying my cat is 100% healthy, no issues, whatsoever! they still claimed they will not cover, just to make sure they don't have to pay in the future.
I suggest you never ever get close to ASPCA pet insurance, it's as bad as a scam!!

For the last few years as my dog and only companion has aged she has more and more to deal with. Because of the fact that I don't for a second hesitate on a necessary treatment --as long as she has quality of life and not in pain-- we are able to endure all of this isolation from the virus together. It means a lot to have her with me, walking, eating, all the things that her meds and treatment allow her to do and be.
I am not saying that without the insurance I would not still provide whatever she needs.. it is just that my life would have to be radically different in order to afford it.
Before you signing up for pet insurance with PetsPlusUs (or any pet insurance) it is important to be aware of what exclusions may exist, and more importantly how those exclusions are applied, both in present and into the future.
In our particular case, we brought our dog to our vet because she was vomiting randomly and we could not figure out the cause. We took her in for a check up within a few days because it wasn't going away on its own.
Upon examination our vet found Nothing Wrong with her and suggested we try her on a "digestive" food.
In doing so, the vomiting stopped.
In the meantime we received our policy from PPU after its underwriter review process was completed. What we found within the policy is an "exclusion" for any vomiting conditions...ANY vomiting conditions. In other words, though no underlying illness was found PPU was excluding from coverage ANY current or future conditions associated with vomiting. If you've never looked up conditions that may have vomiting as a symptom, it is extensive. This is important because the exclusion does not only apply to the current circumstances, again, for which no underlying disease was found but any and all future conditions which may have vomiting as a symptom. Essentially our coverage was effectively reduced to conditions which do not have vomiting associated or anything like the dog being hit by a car.
After a few months our dog's vomiting returned to a lesser extent but it did return, so again we took her to the vet and requested virtually ever diagnostic test possible: blood tests, urine analysis, ultrasound, and more specific blood tests. PPU, to be clear, covered none of the testing though we continued to be enrolled with their insurance. The explanation given was that the testing was associated with the vomiting exclusion and therefore no coverage provided.
The diagnostics performed found No disease condition and the vet once again suggested a change in diet. With that change, the vomiting stopped.
With the issue seemingly resolved, and, more importantly, no underlying disease being identified, we Canceled our PPU policy due to the manner in which this was handled and the blanket exclusion being applied.
Since most conditions affecting a dog may have vomiting associated, our policy became largely ineffectual, but the premium remained the same.
PetsPlusUs is associated with Costco, and with their endorsement comes significant marketing exposure for PPU. We will be contacting Costco to review our personal experience and to gage Costco's understanding of the practices of PPU and their underwriter.
My hope is only to try and give consumers an example of the tactics that can be used to limit their pet's coverage. To be fair, it could happen with other insurers too...the point in this case is that there was Nothing found thru extensive diagnostics to warrant an exclusion, most especially on an on-going basis. If they wanted to exclude the current circumstance because the policy was still being reviewed by the underwriter before Final implementation, that might be viewed as fair; however, to exclude all such instances, regardless of circumstance, into the future, when Nothing was found in terms of an underlying condition, does this seem like an acceptable business practice? Does it seem reasonable? Fair? Does it reflect a concern for the well-being of the animal?
There are several pet insurers. Please take a good look at each and ask questions about when/how/if exclusions may apply and under what circumstances. Many times as consumers we are faced with choices and often we seek endorsements from family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, And by Reading reviews.
The best outcomes stem from being informed. Please choose wisely.
Do NOT pay for this insurance! Go with the cheaper, AKC insurance which covers substantially more, has far less exclusions, and has shorter waiting periods. One example (of many I could provide): I am in the process of switching to AKC insurance and submitted bills for my puppies to both insurance companies because both are currently active on my puppies - PetFirst denied 80% of what I submitted while AKC approved 100% of what I submitted! If I could give PetFirst zero stars, I would! Then there's the fact that in "PART IX - APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS" of the policy packet contact information including an e-mail address is provided (SubmitClaim@petfirst.com) and that all appeals "must be submitted...within 90 days" of the date on the explanation of benefits (or as soon as reasonably practicable) and "You may contact us using the information above." Well guess what happens when you e-mail that e-mail address in order to begin the appeals process? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So I call a couple weeks later and I'm told (1) I had to file an appeal within 30 days and I'm now over the deadline; (2) there's a specific appeal form that must be used (not referenced anywhere in the policy packet); and, (3) that e-mail address is not a monitored e-mail address but simply goes to a queue for claims submissions...needless to say I was absolutely ticked. Ultimately, they did accept my appeal, though that was denied (no surprise there).
Insurance is one of those things that it's hard to feel good about - until you need it. That is where HealthyPaws absolutley delivers above and beyond. Our dog was diagnosed with a degenerative disc disease a couple years ago. We love the guy and he was getting the surgery regardless of coverage. I called Healthypaws to see if this procedure was covered and sure enough, it was.
I called HP a couple weeks after to see what the hold up was in processing my claim only to find the vet didn't file it as they promised. This is where the real customer service magic happened. The girl I was talking to said not to worry, that she would call the vet and get all the forms, etc. By the end of the day I had confirmation that the claim was filed. a day later it was approved and 3 days later I had a check. Amazing!
Since that time our poor guys has managed to tear his CCL in both knees - at separate times. In both case the claim was filed and paid within a week. What else could you possibly ask for? This company is serious about it's mission. And our boy is healthy and thriving in part because of it!

Their entire business model is a scam. I learned the hard way that their deductible limit is PER INCIDENT, and is not annual (like every other health insurance company out there for humans and pets). Honestly I don't even know how this is legal.
They tout that they will cover a new condition for life once you meet your deductible for that specific incident/condition, but think about it... How many of you when your dogs are young or aged 1-5 will develop a chronic condition?? How easy will it be for them to dodge coverage claiming your vet visits are all unique incidents? And for those with older pets, remember, these pet insurance companies won’t cover pre-existing conditions! What a perfect business model for profits!
My experience with them has been horrendous as I'm paying an absurd monthly premium for a high deductible plan. Whereas, with literally every other pet insurance company I've been quoted for rates less than my current monthly premium, a much lower ANNUAL deductible that IS NOT PER INCIDENT, and 90% coverage. To get the same with Trupanion would have my monthly premium near the 3-digit range FOR A PUPPY. Good grief.
My puppy has gotten himself into trouble over the last year+ as he is very energetic, playful, and curious and I'm out thousands due to the handful of vet visits I've needed. And guess what, Trupanion hasn't covered anything. Why? Because none of the unique vet visits have exceeded my deductible. It literally resets every time. If you think about it..... You can visit the vet over a dozen times for various reasons and Trupanion doesn't have to cover anything if you don't meet your deductible for that specific incident/condition. They just sit back and collect the dough.
Steer well clear of this company and their slimy business model. It is structured this way to ensure and maximize profits at the expense of actually doing what they exist to do.
