There are pet owners and then there are pet lovers. Being pet lovers, we didn't hesitate to pull out all the stops when our 10 month old puppy unbelievably came down with a deadly disease which he had been vaccinated against! After 2 vet hospitals we still had to transfer him to a third - Metropolitan Hospital in Akron where - with God leading the way - his life was saved, and he recovered to enjoy puppy-dom. Although Embrace initially turned down our claim, we asked them to take a second look as this was a freak occurrence, something five veterinarians said was unpredictable and rare. Much to our surprise, Embrace agreed that it was an extreme exception, that every precaution had been taken and yet the worst had still happened. These are real people who are willing to listen and delve into the particulars, definitely not what we expected. We thought it would be the same old insurance run-around with a "No" being the end result. It is really refreshing to finally find a company who is as good as their advertising and reviews. We had spent a lot of time reviewing pet insurance companies and we read the reviews and ratings carefully; this time we found a company which doesn't view all events as a black and white issue, but understands that life can take on hues of gray and that sometimes, man's best vaccines just don't eliminate the seemingly "impossible". I have had multiple pet policies with the AKC for my 4 dogs for YEARS This insurance is only good for the SMALL STUFF! When you truly need it, they will claim some NONSENSE and deny the claim or give you some line of garbage. Unfortunately, I needed the insurance and the AKC did NOT PAY as they claim they will. I STRONGLY suggest if you are purchasing insurance, and think you have a piece of mind knowing you have your beloved pet covered, THEY ARE NOT!!! I am taking the matter to the IL Dept of Insurance - Public Service Section. I ask you... do you want to deal with the AKC; and the added loss of your beloved pet and UNPAID Claims of over $8,000. You are best checking out an insurance company that pays an annual maximum WITHOUT a per incident restriction. For myself, there were 3 separate hospitalizations that the AKC is considering ONE INCIDENT and DENYING diagnostics as well. In the end I will see what the IL Dept of Insurance states, but BEWARE -- do you want to deal with this? Unexpected expenses when you are paying a high premium for YEARS and the loss of your beloved pet and these idiots?!

After my one dog, Rome, got a tumor I decided I should get pet insurance. Before I get to Scout's story, I have to quickly mention my cat Chelsea, who passed away in 2006. I had her for 18 years and not pet insurance for her. She suffered many ailments including cancer and hyperthyroidism. She has several surgeries and chemo treatments to treat the cancer and radioactive iodine treatments to cure the hyperthyroidism. Needless to say, taking care of her illnesses cost me a fortune. A few months after she passed away, I got my puppy, Scout, a beautiful, energetic, yellow Labrador retriever. The first thing I did was look into pet insurance. I did my research. Checking all the different insurance companies that were available to me. I came across the ASPCA insurance. The first thing that impressed me was that it was the ASPCA, an organization that I have the utmost respect for and I have supported them for years. I went over the different plans and what would work best for me. I chose the Advantage plan and the premium is extremely reasonable. Within Scout's first 2 years, and many visits to the dog park, she suffered many injuries by playing with the other dogs, In those first 2 years, the insurance paid for itself. Thank goodness, I got it. More recently, in July of 2010, she suffered an injury to her knee and needed to have TTA surgery to repair a ligament. This is a very expensive surgery, costly about $5000.
