So far, excellent services rendered

i have two (old) cats insured with ASPCA and have given insurance to two other pets (1 dog, and one cat) as Christmas and birthday presents to people who could not afford to insure their animals. So far we are all extremely happy with the service and very appreciative of the comforting people on the other end of the phone Pet owner's distress at their animals' illnesses are not always comprehensible to other people.

ASPCA Pet Insurance Highly Reccommended

We have had ASPCA Pet Insurance for our 1 year old Yorkie mix and it has already began to pay off! She was only 1.7 lbs when we first got her and we had to bring her to the emergency room twice for accidents. We have submitted claims for numerous issues and have received a very timely reimbursement. I tried to do research before ultimately choosing ASPCA as our coverage and have not been disappointed since! Make sure you get it sooner than later before life happens and pre-existing conditions start applying!

DO not have veterinarians on staff to review claim

I have had to call inquiring to the staff if they have veterinarians that oversee claims adjudication and processing. I was told that they do not but have hired people who have worked in the veterinary field. What veterinary assistants? technicians? Are they licensed technicians, do they have experience with these illnesses? I'm sorry but I expect veterinary oversight on claims that need it like cancer, and other conditions that require specialty knowledge. I have called asking this question several times and they don't have the answers I need. The claims process turnaround is getting worse. But I'm also told many pet insurance companies don't have veterinarians on staff either. This is poor. Veterinary Pet Insurance does but their claim turnaround is worse than PetFirst. I"m tired of the bait and switch on the senior policies and policies for my dogs with chronic conditions, i.e.. heart disease and allergies which I've had to drop the policy.

Timely & Reasonable Reimbursements

I have two smaller dogs (10# each) and got insurance for them at 8 yrs old, expecting that they would face age-related problems (they are now almost 11). I pay about $77/month for two dogs with a $250 deductible each. One of the dogs recently had an emergency issue which resulted in $2500 worth of multiple ER and vet visits w/lab work. I received about $1800 in reimbursements, each taking about two weeks. While my policy reimburses 90% of UCR (usual, customary and reasonable), I was reimbursed at 72%. Granted, I was fortunate to have any reimbursement at all--and maybe the vets can charge lower--but given the high cost of living in Southern California, I think that ASPCA could improve on their reimbursements. The staff are usually friendly. They reimburse by two weeks. They're pretty good...but I think they can be better. Now that my dogs have age-related issues, I can't change insurance companies so I will stay with ASPCA. While I would recommend this company to others, I would strongly suggest that they do their homework before signing on.

Bait and Switch on Senior Policies, chronic issues

I have been a PetFirst customer since 2007. For the most part I've been satisfied with the exception of chronic conditions or breed conditions not covered after the policy year had concluded and the next policy year would not cover the ailment. They claim they cover these conditions on their policies, but do not cover them after the first year on the policy and I'm not talking about preexisting conditions. I had a diabetic cat that was not covered after the first year for his treatments, three senior dogs who I had to cancel policies because they quit paying for heart disease management on two of them as well as skin issues and allergies on the other one. Now I have a coonhound who was recently diagnoses with an oral mass that they feel is cancer and face the same problem even though it was found at the end of the previous policy period. I"m not happy at all.

I definitely recommend ASPCA Pet Insurance!

We really enjoy the coverage we receive for Butters in our home the past 3 years! ASPCA Insurance helps take the sting out of paying the vet bill when I know many of Butters medications and conditions will be covered and reimbursed right into my bank account within a few weeks. In my household, the monthly fee pays for itself- and knowing we're covered if an emergency happens gives me great peace of mind. .

Unlucky dog but lucky to have Healthy Paws!

Our dog Reef just made 1 year in August and has already had 2 surgeries and 8 claims with Healthy Paws, totaling over $10,000. We purchased 80% coinsurance and it's amazing that there is only a $250 annual deductible and not a per claim deductible. Healthy Paws is AMAZING! Here is our weird story. We have a very active, happy, and handsome dog who is part Rottweiler part Shar Pei. After the beach, Reef was limping for a month and we couldn't figure out why. First his vet thought it was a strain, then after x-rays she thought it was a chipped shoulder bone, then the surgeon thought it might be tendinitis. After all that, we were camping one weekend and a large bump formed on his upper chest that looked like a tumor. They did aspirations and cell tests but all the tests came back negative as a tumor. Then the lump broke open and started oozing...gross! Reef started acting really strange and started hiding around the house so I got scared and the emergency vet decided to do surgery right away. They cleaned out the infection tract but the infection went too close to vital nerves and his esophagus to get all the scar tissue out. They didn't find any source of the infection. He had 22 stitches, a fluid drain, was on pain meds, anti-inflammatory pills, anti-biotics and was on low activity rest for 6 weeks! Everything seemed to be okay with him until about a month later, another large bump formed on his lower chest and broke open...gross! This time they did a CT scan before operating. They found that his upper rib was abnormally inflamed and decided it'd be best to remove it. They performed surgery, removed part of his rib and cleaned out the second infection. When the lab results came back for the rib, they diagnosed it with Osteomyelitis (don't google it, barf). The surgeon was happy about the results because it didn't come back as cancer. We don't know how he got osteomyelitis. It could've been from a wound from a stick, or a dog bite, who knows. The surgeon said Reef got "the award for weirdest case ever, an award we did not want to get." Luckily I bought pet insurance for Reef when he was 3 months old and it was the best decision I ever made. We had gone to dinner with my parents and left Reef in the back yard with their two dogs. When we got back, Reef was on the roof and we have no idea how he got up there! I knew right then that he would need insurance, but I would've never dreamed how much this dog could've cost us. Without insurance, who knows

Professional

I have been amazed at the ease and rapid response to my questions and claims. This company was highly recommended online by fellow Great Dane owners and I'm so glad I took their recommendation.

Great Insurance that took a big one for the team

So we've had Mr Pickles since 4 months old, and we took out pet insurance with Healthy Paws straight after getting our little guy. Less than 2 weeks after the waiting period finished Pickles was having surgery to remove things he shouldn't have swallowed (rocks, sticks, ribbon etc). Healthy Paws didn't flinch, and with the necessary documentation paid out 90% of the $2,500 cost for the treatment. Thank you Healthy Paws, what great service!!!
