Buyer Beware
My first anniversary date is 11/2021. Over the past couple of months, my 4 year old dog tested positive for an autoimmune skin condition which required a nose biopsy, frequent visits to the vet and medication. I submitted a claim for the nose biopsy which was summarily declined before the results came back. Appealing the decision, they eventually paid part of it. Then, there were two sick visits to the vet neither which were covered because they are considered pet exams. The meds were covered, but needed to be submitted separately, and one was overlooked and needed my follow up to get the reimbursement. Today, I got a note saying my premium would be going up almost $10 a month on my first anniversary date based on a state by state reimbursement algorithm. They reevaluate your premiums every year, I’m sure, with an eye towards raising them. I’m also understanding that the deductibles can go up as your pets age. I’m warning you to look closely at these pet insurance companies and do a proper comparison before you buy. And I don’t recommend Healthy Paws.

Great coverage at a good price and a hassle-free claims process. Our dog suffered a complete rupture of his right CCL in 2019 and then his left almost exactly two years later. Healthy Paws covered almost all of the associated cost of both surgeries. I can't imagine an easier claims process - just upload your bills and receive reimbursement a few days later. It's a relief to be able to focus on helping our dog with his recovery with a fantastic insurance company on our side.

I honestly can’t say enough about Trupanion. Companies like this just don’t exist anymore. The rates are great - especially for the service. The people are smart, thorough and kind. They gave my dog his eyesight back, my other her health, my third a chance at life and time to say goodbye. Trupanion makes every transaction easy and keeps the worry out of pet care. An amazing organization with truly wonderful pet loving people. Thank you all!

Easily Outshines Competition
I have been with three pet insurance companies in my adult lifetime as a pet owner. Among the three I have had personal experience with, Prudent Pet easily dominates. Given the other two were highly regarded insurers, I don't doubt Prudent Pet will be the number one competitor within the industry in a short amount of time... Initially, the claims process seemed a little dated/antiquated. You had to fill out a form every time submitting a claim, there's no app, and direct deposit for reimbursement hasn't been serviceable for several months - meaning, reimbursement comes in the form of a check in the mail. They encourage you to submit medical records with the invoice for each claim (medical records from that visits only) to expedite the process...so that also felt complicated. However, unlike other companies, Prudent Pet really isn't like other insurers. While the process may seem complicated, it actually isn't. I quickly realized that if I just took care of things on my end, it expedited things for everyone. Turn around time has always been within 48 to 72 hrs of submitting/uploading the invoice, vet notes, and claim form. I have submitted several claims, the first being very close to the date coverage started, and I have never been questioned or denied...there's never been a glitch with my payments or reimbursements. It's been seemless. Prudent Pet has been making improvements in their process as well. For instance, instead of having to fill out a physical form and upload it for each new claim, you electronically fill one out through your online portal and submit it. Than you separately submit the invoice and medical records. If you don't have records, that's fine too - they only suggest it for the sake of expediting claims processing. Their insurance plans are very customizable. Three base tiers of insurance plans to meet budget needs. Then you can add different tiers of Wellness options, as well as reimbursement for vet exam fees, deductible cost and overall percentage reimbursed. Customer service is really accessible and personable. Prudent Pet is a small company, so often you'll be helped by the same folks. For me it tends to be Jennifer, and she's always awesome. To be honest, I have never had anything but positive experiences regardless of who was on the other end of the phone. Frankly, contacting someone at Prudent tends to be easier and more pleasant than having to call my own family, so that is kinda a big deal from an insurance company. Being that they're based in EST, I have to call them before 3pm since I live in the West - that took a while to remember; also, limited hours on the weekends. All in all, they may be slightly more than the competition, however, they don't require an initial head to tail exam, offer limited waiting periods, and much much more in customer service and policy coverage than everyone else. They also offer multi-pet and military discounts. I have already gotten two other friends excited about insuring their dogs with Prudent - hopefully they will!

Quick reimbursement!
I got a new puppy a few weeks ago, and set up insurance shortly after. I set up her new puppy visit to the vet, and downloaded the Pets Best app on my phone. I uploaded the vet bill the day of my vet visit, was notified of the reimbursement amount within 2 business days and the funds were back in my account within another 2 days! Very happy with the service!
