I had a large veterinary bill for my cat.

I had a large veterinary bill for my cat who had a massive ear infection. I was able to send all invoices and Dr.s notes and my claim was reviewed and accepted in a short time. After processing the claim I was issued a check fairly quickly. I have been very happy that I have Spot pet insurance.

BEWARE!

PLEASE stay away from this company for dog insurance. They denied claims that were clearly stated in the policy and tried to claim they were “pre-existing”. On top of that their customer service is horrible. Save your money and find a different insurance company.

Unthoughtful and self-serving

Unthoughtful and self-serving. The reasoning behind their denial of my claim request is because my puppy's appointment was on day 15 of the 15 day waiting period. My date of joining (payment going through) was 7/1 and her service date was 7/17, 16 days upon joining, not 15, so technically we were within the waiting period. There was no clear indication upon joining that there would be a potential “hold” or processing period prior to the waiting period being effective. This is now a permanent condition for her, so I will be having to pay full price out of pocket the rest of her life, which of course I'll have to make it work, but there was absolutely no grace or empathy. I had high hopes because they were recommended by a friend, but I will no longer be giving money to Fetch for any future accidents that may arise.

Know your policy wording

I thought this would be an easy company to deal with, associated with USAA. Sure, they employ nice people who are helpful when you call in to dispute a claim that wasn’t covered, but get ready because you will be calling them a lot. You have be extremely specific with your claims and that involves invoices from your veterinarian. I have had 5 claims in one month rejected because the wording used in the invoice is not covered. Once the wording is changed to the specific language in the policy the claim is then covered. However it’s the same thing. I can’t claim “physical therapy” as a broad term because that may or may not include the 5 therapies covered. This is such a headache because I then have to go back to the veterinarian and beg them to change the wording on the invoice so I am refunded. What has been extremely frustrating is my veterinarian expressing her own dismay as “other insurance companies aren’t this picky.” Had I known this I would have not automatically trusted a USAA company to be the best choice. My advice is KNOW YOUR POLICY, and be able to communicate clearly to your veterinarian about what language needs to be used on an invoice. It sucks, in the face of an animal in crisis to have to think about it this way, but alas here we are.
