There for us in a time of need

I have never used pet insurance before, and when we adopted a purebred Sphynx, I thought it was in our best interest. I did my research and found Healthy Paws. The price was competitive, and the coverage I was quoted for felt sufficient. Fast forward to our cat's 1 year well visit, we were informed his cardio pet value was the highest they'd ever seen and referred us to a cardiologist. Sadly, our baby was diagnosed with juvenile heart disease, and we were given the news that he would be on lifelong medication and still have a short life. The news was devastating, and I was worried about how the insurance would treat us. They were amazing. The claims were easily submitted, and we were reimbursed within 2 days directly to our bank account. He recently went into heart failure after a routine procedure and was in the hospital. Healthy Pets covered all of his costs that were covered and even sent a check-in email to see how he was progressing. They make a bad situation feel safe and secure. Now I can focus on him and less about how I will afford to care for him. Highly recommend!

More Difficult than Medicare and SSA to Manage

When we signed up in 2020, they had good reviews. Once in, you have to upload all of your pets history, which we did. For 4 and a half years we have been canceled once with no notice because the card expired. Guess what, you have to reload all your doxuments, two week before we knew because we checked the card. Biggest issue is all their time, we had one claim approved to our deductible. The others they ran into lack is docs. We have a service dog, so everything has been provided every time. Their fees also are outrageous for the lack of coverage. Go anywhere but here.

large increases

after first year metlife pet insurance increased 100 100% increase after first year ---- i stuck with them because first year was affordable. Now its obvious when i will need my dogs insurance most in the future it will be unaffordable for a $5500. payout yearly plan with a $250 deductlible. MetLife you are now priced out of my ballpark. ! 5

Stay away from MetLife dog insurance

We first signed up with MetLife on December 29, 2022, for a pet insurance policy with 100% coverage and a $200 annual deductible. The monthly premium was quoted at $65.36. Our dog, a Great Dane mix, had just turned one on October 31, 2022, and had no pre-existing conditions at the time. When it came time to renew the policy on December 29, 2023, the coverage remained the same, but the premium increased to $90.30/month — a 38% hike. When I reached out to MetLife, I was told the increase was due to rising veterinary costs in our area. We accepted the new rate and moved on. However, on November 23, 2024, I received an email stating our policy would renew again on December 29, 2024 — this time with a new premium of $182.20/month. That’s a 100.17% increase from the $90.30/month we were paying just one year ago! I called MetLife on November 24, 2024, to ask about the drastic rate hike. I spoke to two representatives. The first couldn’t explain which factor contributed to the 100.17% increase, while the second claimed the hike was due to our dog’s age — he turned 3 years old on October 31, 2024. They also mentioned that location and breed could affect rates, but neither could provide specific details on how these factors applied to our situation. In the end, the decision is yours, but based on these facts, I would not recommend MetLife dog insurance to anyone!

Very Pleased

I can not say enough positive things about MetLife pet insurance. I did a lot of researching before purchasing insurance for my kitten. We had a pretty significant injury shortly after insurance kicked in (apparently no waiting period for emergencies). It took awhile to get approved but it was well over $1000, so I understand why it took longer to process. I wasn’t even sure it would be approved but was hoping for the best. It was approved…. Phew! We went for a kitty well visit Thursday PM and the claim was processed and approved Sat AM. So what’s not to like? They process claims quickly, customer service was top notch when I did have a question, plenty of options when choosing a plan and found it to be very decent coverage at a very decent price.

Easy filing claims, responsive but lacking in coverage

For a healthy, young pet like mine, I need little services other than wellness checks/vaccines and meds like heartworm and flea/tick. The coverage I get from Pets Best reimburses me for some expenses but I feel there should be more coverage. I end up paying way more to have the insurance than it provides back in benefits but I understand that's just insurance. They do make it easy to file claims and communicate well about their processing of claims/payments. Just wish they covered services more fully.

1st year with Pets Best

Our first year having this insurance on our new Labrador puppy has been good. Claims are now processed more quickly than they were when we first got the policy, instead of 4 weeks, our last claims were about 24 hours. Just got our renewal and the change in premium was no big deal compared to our other dog on an insurance. That insurance has risen every single renewal. My only complaint is the Best Wellness Plan that covers vaccinations, spay/neuter etc. i misunderstood the amount they cover as “per” vax not commutative. Thought it would be a good investment for all the puppy vax they get the first year. Well, it tops out at only $50 total, not $50 per vax., I dropped this coverage at renewal. Otherwise happy with the policy.

Not honest

Don’t put your card down for auto premium payments. They double charged me for October as soon at I added my card then refuse to refund saying I missed a previous payment when I did not. I have my bank statements and they cannot show proof where one was missed. They say they look into it but never got back to me. They always raise the premiums $20-$40 per month each year. They pick and choose what qualifies. I feel they are a very dishonest company

Better than expected

*foreign body surgery and several day hospital stay* I was worried after reading reviews, never thinking I'd have to file a claim, I went with the most affordable- which was Pets Best. I'm convinced people only post when their experiences are negative. I love that it could all be uploaded online, have multiple options to have payment go to the bank or Care Credit, and most importantly, got paid. Thank you! I've already referred others. Although I hope to never use you again, I'm glad you're here if we have to!

First Claim Made Easy

I recently switched from another insurance company that I had been with since my dog was a baby due to cost of premiums. My dog had no previous diagnosed disease beyond a cough when he was 4 months old. Our first claim was for a cough and decreased recovery rate after exercise. I was concerned there would be an issue with the claim, but Pets Best processed it within 5 weeks, including the review of the medical records I had sent them. Very happy with the experience!
